PATENT JOHN H. LUDWIOK, OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
REFLECTOR- FOR LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,798, dated September 6, 1881.
Application filed July 18, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN' HARVEY LUD- wIoK, of Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Reflectors for Lamps; and I do hereby declare thatthefollowingis afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my reflector-lamp, and Fig. 2 is avertical central section through the reflector and handle.
My invention relates to improvementsin reflectors for lamps; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts, whereby the handle and reflector can readily be detached from the lamp-body and replaced thereon when desired, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, a represents the body or oil-chamber of a lamp, enlarged at its rear end and gradually tapering toward its front end, which is rounded, as shown in the drawings.
The outer end of the upper face of the body a is provided with a screw-threaded oritice, adapted to receive the screw-threaded end of alamp-burner, b, of the usual construction.
To the upper horizontal face of the lampbody, and near its rear end, is secured a transverse metallic plate, 0, having an upturned vertical flange, d, at its forward end, and its rear end bent vertically a short distance and then bent forward into a horizontal position,
so as to form a'horizontal transverse lip, c, with a recess, It, below it and between the lower face of the lip and the upper face of the plate 0.
It represents a concave reflector, having an orifice near its upper end for the passage of the upper end of the lamp-chimney, and provided at its lower end witha horizontalflange, Z, projecting rearwardly, and adapted to be inserted and slid in the recess h, the lip e bearing on the upper face of the horizontal flange I, and the vertical flange cl bearing against the front face of the reflector at its lower end, thereby securely holding the reflector in place. By this construction it will be seen that the reflector is securely held in place on the lampbody, and that it can readily be detached, when desired, from the lamp-body to clean it, or for other purposes.
at represents the handle of the reflectorlamp, made preferably triangular in form and of metal, and provided with a hole, a, in one of its sides, by means of which the lamp may be suspended from a pin, when desired. The handle at is detachablysecured to the reflector and to the body of the lamp in the following manner:
To the upper end of the handle is secured a short metallic plate or catch, 0, adapted to be inserted in a loop, 1), formed by securing the ends of a metallic strip to the back face of the reflector. The lower end of the handle is also provided with a bent metallic plate or catch, q, adapted to be inserted in a loop, r, formed by securing the ends of a metallic strip to the upper face of the lamp-body, near its rear end. By this construction it will be seen that the handle can readily be detached from the reflector and lamp-bod and replaced when desired, and that the reflector can also be detached and replaced for transportation purposes, or for cleaning the reflector, or for replacing the reflector or handle when broken.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with a lamp-body provided with the vertical flange d, lip c, and recess h, of the reflector 7., provided with the projecting flange I, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the reflector it, provided with a loop, 19, on its back, and lampbody (I, provided with the loop 1, of the bandle in, having the catches 0 q, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with a lamp-body, a, provided with the vertical flange d, lip 0, recess h, and loop r, of the reflector it, provided with the projecting flange Z and loop p on its back, and handle at, having the catches 0 q, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
. JOHN HARVEY LUDWIOK,
