H.PROBST.. DRAWING TABLE.
Patented Aug. 30, 1881.
ATTORNEY UNTTED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
HERMANN PROBST, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRAWING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,554, dated August 30, 1881.
7 Application filed March '7, 1881. (N0 model.) Patented in Germany NovcmbcrQO, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HERMANN PROBS'I, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved drawing-table for draftsmen.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved drawing-table. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is avertic'al transverse section through one of the side standards and the storage drawer or box.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
lteferrin g to the drawings, A represents the upright side standards of my improved draw ing-table, which standards are rigidly secured to base-pieces a by inclined braces 12. The standards A A are connected by a transverse rail, B, which passes through corresponding guide-recesses at the lower part of the standards A, and which is rigidly connected there to, so as to keep the standards at the proper distance from each other by guide-straps d and clamp-screws d, the former being secured to laterally-projecting brackets c of the standards, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 3. By loosening the clamp-screws d of the straps d the standards A may be' adjusted closer together or farther apart on the transverse connecting-rail B, and thus adapted to support larger or smaller drawing-boards, as required. Each standard A consists of two sections, a lower socket-section, A, and an upper slotted section, A which telescopesinto the socket-section A. The upper section, A is slotted for the bolt of a clamp-screw,f, the head of the bolt being countersunk into the upwardly-extended rear wall of the socket-section A, as shown in Fig. 3, and serving, by means of a washer and thumb-nut, to rigidly secure the upper section, A, to the socket-section A. By loosening the thumb-nut the upper section, A may be raised to any desired height, according as the draftsman desires to use the table in a sitting or standing position, the upper section being then rigidly secured by tightening the thumb-nut.
To the upper end of each standardA is centrally pivoted a supporting-rail, O, which may be adjusted to any desired angleof inclination by means of a semicircular strap, g, which is guided by a fixed strap or staple, g, of the upper section, A and secured thereto by a thumbnut, 9 Each top rail, 0, is provided with projecting pins or spurs for securely retaining the drawing-board when placed upon the top rails. On accountot' this threefold adjustment which can be given to the parts of the supportingframeto wit, the lateral adjustment of the standards, the upward extension of the same, and the inclination of the top rails-the drawingtable may be arranged for any size of board and to any height or inclination, so as to be of special advantage for office use.
In connection with the upper section of the standards A is arranged a horizontal platform, D, and drawer D, which latter slides in guide-rails of the platform D. The platform I) is attached to an angular -bracket-strap, h, which is guided in staples 71/ of the socket-section A of the standard A, and secured thereto by a clamp-screw, h The strap is further guided, for greater steadiness at the upper part, by means of a pin, 17, passing through the slot of the upper section of the standard A, as shown clearly in Fig. 3. By this arrangement the storage-drawer and platform may be readily set to any desired height as required by the draftsman for the convenient placing and storing of the instruments.
Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent- In a drawing-table, the combination of the base-section A and slotted upper section, A of standard A with a vertically-adjustableplatform, D, and a storagedrawer, D, and with devices for guiding and fastening the platform to the standards, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 24th day of February, 1881.
HERHANN PEOBST.
