MAP-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,497, dated August 30, 1881.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. GINN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Map-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a partof this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a vertical section looking toward plate B. Fig. 2 is a vertical section looking toward plate A; and Fig. 3 is a detail view.

This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding maps.

The invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A and B are two metal plates, A having holes a, forming closed sockets; B having the holes I), with mouths and the entrances b flaring outward leading to the holes, forming open sockets. Beads may be formed around the edges of the holes on the inner faces of the plates.

The maps are placed on rollers 0, these latter having ends adapted to the sockets to and I). The open sockets b are smaller than the body of the rollers, and these latter have reduced trunnions 0, so as to form a shoulder, c, which comes just inside the sockets.

E is a box having in its bottom the slits e and several holes, 6. The plates A and B are fastened to the ends of this box within. The rollers with the maps are put in place, the ends of the latter coming through the slits e. (lords for rolling the maps pass through the holes 6.

If desired, the cords may be dispensed with, and spring-pawls or other device he used.

Any desired number of sockets can he made in the plates, and so arranged that the case will be filled when all the maps are rolled up.

- I claim 7 As a means for holding maps ready for use, the box E, having the bottom slit-s e and holes 6', in combination with plate A, having holes a, forming closed sockets, plate B, having holes b, with months 0 and flaring entrances b, forming open sockets, and rollers 0, having reduced trunnions c, fitting said open sockets, substantially as set forth.
