WINDOW FIXTURE Filed July 10, 1945 INVENTOR lo/IN 0/ LORE/VZO ATTORN EY Patented Feb. 8, 1949 WINDOW FIXTURE John Di Lorenzo, Jeannette, Pa., assignorv of three-tenths to Louis Di Lorenzo, Jeannette.
Application July 10, 1945, Serial No. 604.273
This invention relates to a window fixture, and important objects and advantages thereof are to provide a window fixture of the character described, Whicheinbodies novel means for supporting the window shade and for suspending window curtains and drapes therefrom, which is horizontally and vertically adjustable, which may be attached to a window frame without the use of separate fastening elements, which may be conveniently secured and leveled in position or removed from the'latter, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, durable and efiicient inits use, compact, attractive in appearance, and comparatively economical in its manuf acture andinstallation.
With theforegoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts herein specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but it is to be understood that changes in the form, proportions and details of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a window fixture constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Figures 3 and 4 are respective end views of the device.
Referring in detail to the drawing the improved window fixture comprises a pair of similar suspension plates, respectively indicated at I and 2. The suspension plates are flat, and the top portion of each is formed to provide a rearwardly extending, horizontally disposed seating flange 3. A pair of attaching teeth 4 is carried by and depends from the free rear edge of the seating flange of each of the suspension plates.
The suspension plates I and 2 are substantially oblong, rectangularly-shaped, and are designed to be attached in the vertical position to the top member 5 of a window frame adjacent to respective ends of said top member. The seating flanges 3 seat upon the top edge of the top member when the attaching teeth 4 are driven into the top member or between the latter and the adjacent wall structure. Under ordinary conditions, such engagement of the attaching teeth will suflice to secure the suspension plates in position on the window frame. Each of the seating flanges is provided with an aperture 6 for the reception of a screw 1 or other 1 Claim. (01. 243-253) suitable fastening element, if, for any reason, the latter is required.
A supporting bracket 8 is mounted on the suspension plateI, and a supporting bracket 9 is mounted on the suspension bracket 2. The supporting brackets are generally of similar construction, excepting that the lower end portion of the supporting bracket 8 is provided with a' substantially L-shaped slot In for receiving and holding the oblong holding axle II, carried at one end of the conventional type of spring shade roller I2, while the lower end portion of the supporting bracket 9 is provided with a bearing aperture I3 for the revoluble reception of the cylindrical spindle I4, which is fixed in'the other end of the spring shade roller.
The supporting brackets 8 and 9 are disposed vertically edgewise and project forwardly from respective suspension plates I and 2 in parallel relation to each other. Each of the supporting brackets includes an attaching flange I5, which extends inwardly from the rear-edge of respective supporting brackets at right angles with respect to the latter. The attaching flanges I5 are positioned flatly against the rearward face of respective suspension plates I and 2 and between the latter and the top member 5 of the window frame.
The supporting brackets 8 and 9 extend along the outer side edges of respective suspension plates I and 2, and each of the attaching flanges I5 thereof carries a fixed forwardly extending bolt I6, which latter projects through an elongated vertically disposed slot I! provided therefor in respective suspension plates. Each of the bolts I6 is provided with a wing nut I8, whereby the supporting brackets are secured in position to respective suspension plates, and allowing the vertical adjustment of the supporting brackets relatively to the latter.
A suspension rod I9 for window curtains, and
. a similar suspension rod 20 for Window drapes are embodied in the improved window fixture.
Each of the suspension rods comprises a pair of rods I9 and 20 are disposed rearwardly at right angles with respect to the longitudinal disposition of respective suspension rods. The free terminal 22 of each of said angularly disposed end portions 2| is formed to irictionally engage respective connecting fingers 23, which latter are stamped directly from the respective supporting brackets 8 and 9. The connecting fingers project forwardly from their connections with the supporting brackets along and parallel to the outer faces of the latter. Such engagements of the terminals 22 with the connecting fingers 23 support the suspension rods and allow the convenient removal of the latter from the supporting brackets or their replacement when requiremerits necessitate such operations. 7
It will, of course, be obvious that any other suitable forms of connecting elements may be stamped from the supporting brackets 8' and 9 for detachably joining two or even more suspension rods i9, 20, with said supporting brackets,
decorative accompanying drapery from a unitary i window fixture.
What I claim is:
.A window fixture of the class described comprising the combination of a flat oblong suspensionplate provided with an elongated vertical slot and positioned vertically against the front of the top member of a window frame, a rearwardly extending seating flange carried at the upper end of said plate and seating on the top edge of said top member, a pair of teeth depending from the free rear edge of said seating flange and engaging the rear of said top member to connect said plate in position to the top member, a fiat vertically adjustable supporting bracket positioned against the outer side edge of said plate and projecting forwardly edgewise from the latter, an attaching flange formed integral with said bracket and being disposed rearwardly of said plate, a bolt fixed in said attaching flange and projecting through said slot, a nut engaged on said bolt operable for securing said bracket in an adjusted position, and a pair of forwardly projecting vertically aligned connecting fingers stamped from said bracket and being disposed at the outer side of said bracket and adjacent to the latter in spaced horizontal parallel relation to each other, each of said fingers being adapted for connection with the end of a curtain rod.
