Application April 7;- 1930; SerlalNcQ was; and
in- AustraliaAprilfii),1929" I 1: Claim} (01. J ere-19 This invention relates to means for supporting or hanging curtains and other light articles and the improvements constituting the invention have I been specially devised to provide an improvedsup port incorporating an improved bracket whereby the afiixing of brackets by screws, nails and the like upon the face of window or other architraves or frames, the necessary labor entailed and the resultant damage will be avoided, and the supwiport with curtains and or other light articles thereon or therewith may be readily and-conveniently emplaced and later removed such as for dusting or cleaning, and replaced, and the mounting of a ladder, or other means by the user to efiect the emplacement, removal and replace ment is unnecessary and thus accidents will be avoided. I
The improvements comprise primarily and essentially an improved bracket preferably con- ZO structed of sheet metal of selected gauge and constituted in one construction of, a main, back or vertical member having at one end an outwardly disposed turn over or hook and the other end formed with a short longitudinal outward chamber and which part may be sheathed with felt, rubber or other abrasive preventive material; a strut member, either diagonally disposed or curved and afiixed at one end to said main member towards the cambered end, and a 'supporting member whose inner end is connected to the back member or the top of an upstanding member connected at its lower end to-saidv main member and whose outer end is connected to the upper end of the strut member. In addition, if "desired, there may be formed with or applicable to or secured to the bracket and either projecting from the main member or on the strut member, or depending from the supporting member, means in 4 suitable form for receiving and supporting a curtain rod.
In another construction the bracket is constituted of the main member as before described with the addition of a channel formed upon the face thereof opposite to the disposition of the turn over or hook, and a plurality of longitudinally spaced holes through or serrations upon said members, and a supporting bracket with its back member slidable in said channel, a pin be- 59131118 inserted in a hole of the main member or a screw in said bracket'being tightened against said member'tohold said bracket at desired position thereon to provide for vertical adjustment of the supporting members.
i5? 'An improved support for a curtain and other.
light :articles ,is constitutedofia, pair diplurals ity of the improved brackets, in either construc- 7 tion, anda valance board of requisite dimensions and shape such asxrectan'gular for window and like curtains and'triangular for corners, secured upon the supporting men'ibers of said brackets) and, if desired, means secured to said board either to depend therefrom or along its outer edge which will be forward in use, or forwardly projecting therefrom, adapted to receive and support a curtain or other rod, or convenient hooks or the like may be secured to the lower face of said board which may be wider for the purpose, and the support with a curtain depending from the front may be arranged particularly in a corner of a room and for use as a wall wardrobe which will be conveniently portable. i l
And in order that the improvements and practical application thereof may befreadily understood the same will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which; I
Figure l is a perspective of an improved support for curtains incorporating the improved bracket, s
Figure 2 is an end elevation of Figure 1,
Figures 3 and 4 are a perspective and a side elevation respectively of an adjustable constructionof the improved bracket, and
Figures 5 and 6 and, '7 are perspectives 'of the improved bracket, with curtain pole holding means applied thereto,
7 The improved bracket is constituted of a main back vertical member 7 having an outwardly disposed hook 8 formed at or near its upper end i and in its other end anoutward camber "9, a support member 10 projecting from said member 7 and having screw hole 11 therethrough where required; and a's trut member 12 or 12' conven- V -iently connected between and to said members 7 and 10 to support the latter. A bracket so con-i structed is readily securely emplacedby placing the hook 8 upon a cleat l3 tacked upon the top f of a window architrave or upon a picture rail or other suitable or convenient'support. s
To a spacer pair of such brackets (as in Figure 1) a valance board 14 is secured and to which curtains or drapings may be tacked, or said board may have rings or screw eyes 15 depending from the underface or projecting from the front edge and wherein a curtain pole 16 maybe emplaced and supported. g
In a modified and adjustable construction of the improved bracket the main member 7' is provided upon the forward face with'a spaced pair of vertical channels 17 andaplurality of spaced holes 18, and. the support member 10 is carried by a vertical member 19 which has a bore 20 therethrough, and a strut 12 so that the support 10 may be vertically adjusted in the member 7 and secured in selected position by a pin 21, or in place thereof a screw or spring catch.
To support a curtain pole upon or from the supporting member 10 I provide a removably and reversably applicable holder comprising in one construction a pair of members 22 each formed at one end with a loop 23 to slide upon said member 10 and disposed either upwardly or downwardly as shown in Figures 5 and 6, and having their other ends complementarily formed as by a hook 24 whereby said membersmay be engaged together about an inserted pole, and in a modified construction as in Figure 6 the pair of members whose ends are plain and slightly spaced are carried by a single loop 23 which is provided with a set screw 25 to lock the holder upon the member 10, and in a further modification as in Figure 7 each member 22 has a loop 23 andset screw 25 and their free ends are plain so that such members may be set with said ends spaced as shown to permit a curtain to hang therebetween.
I claimi- Improved bracket consisting of a vertical back member comprising a forwardly openchannel member, having a plurality of longitudinally spaced pin holes therein and having at opposite ends a rearwardly disposed hook and a rearward camber, and a vertical member slidable in said channel and having a pin hole therethrough adapted to register with any one of the holes in said back member, and carrying a forwardly disposed and strutted supporting member, and a pin adapted to be placed in said registering holes to lock said members together.
