Another object is. to provide such a sock support which has one portion surrounding the ankle of the wearer within thelsoclrand anotherportinn attached` to the rst mentioned: portion',v and? directly holding the sock in place by suspension.

A further object is to largely conceal the supporting members supporting a sock in order to render the same as unobtrusive as possible.

A still furtherobject is to have a sock support which is readily applied in as accessible a position as possible upon the leg of the wearer, that is, upon the ankle with a minimum diameter, which also makes the device smaller than if applied higher.

It is also an object to have the sock support made of tWo separable portions, the one being capable of attachment to the ankle and the other to the upper portion of the sock, the latter being attachable to the rst portion above the sock but normally capable of remaining attached to said sock when detached from the rst mentioned portion.

It is even an object to introduce a novel form of sock support which has a new sales appeal and is manufactured cheaply to sell for a very reasonable price.

Other objects and advantages will appear in further detail as the specication proceeds.

In order to bring out more comprehensively the features of this invention, the same is illustrated in a practical form in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which,

Garters and' suspension means: for' supporting socks have been used for a; long time,l but, either they must be attached: to; garments worn the user or they are attached to the leg in some way to. constrict the latter inv an undesirableway.. It is; also well known thatA garters arey usually worn upalong; the-leg in a somewhat inaccessible position.l not to mention that theyare more or less unsightly and at best give the impression of being mere makeshifts.

Now, I have found that it is not necessary to have such garters attached from above that hang down in unsightly manner while constricting the soft parts of the leg, as it is easily possible to have special support means which are convenient to apply and use which are almost completely concealed and accessible for adjustment or removal at will.

Hence, in the practice of my invention, and referring again to the drawing, a strap member 8 is mounted upon the ankle 9 with the end l0 of the strap engaging in a buckle I l within a sock l2, and is provided with an upright strip i3 of rather stiff material secured to the strap member by means of a bridge or connecting piece lil, the latter being secured exteriorly upon the strap member and forming an upward limited projection on the upright strip member i3, so as to form part of the latter for all practical purposes. The lower part of the upright strip in the form of the bridge member or connecting piece I4 is widened along the strap 8, 2|, or 23, as the case may be and has the bottom end extended a distance below the strap in each case to form an extensive reinforcement for the strap and the upright strip I3 at the junction thereof, while also having the laterally widened portions and the upward projection joined by diagonal portions covering the meeting angles of the upright and strap member above the latter, as may readily be seen by noting Figure 2 and particularly in conjunction with Figures 4 and 5. The strap member may be made of leather, plastic of the vinyl series or any other material, while the connecting piece may also be made of such material and secured thereto by cementing, riveting or sewing the same thereto. The strap member may also be reinforced outside with a stiiening strip of semi-hard material. Upon the upper portion of tached to the fasteners at any height it is evident that socks of various lengths may be accommodated.

Although a buckle l I has been described as engaging with the end of the ankle strap, it may be replaced by a loop of material 20 similar to that of the strap 2| to receive end 22 of the latter as shown in Figures 4 and 6, the strap being preferably stiff and somewhat resilient so that it will tend to close vabout the ankle. On the other hand, as shown in Figures 5 and 7, the ankle strap 23 may have its end 24 provided with a snap button engaging with a snap fastener 25 on lthe strap proper, at 26.

Manifestly, variations maybe resorted to and parts and features may be modified or omitted, within the scope of the appended claim.

Having now fully described my invention, I claim:

In a sock support comprising a strap member for encircling the ankle of the wearer, an upright mounted at the lower end thereof upon said strap member and upon the upper end having a separable fastening means, the features which include a sock suspension member having means for engaging with and retaining a sock attached thereto and at least one fastening member adapted to engage with the separable fastening means as the sole connection between said upright 'and said soci; Asuspension member, and a bridge or connecting piece secured exteriorly upon the strap member and the lower end of said upright having an upward projection along said upright and being widened laterally in both directions along the strap member and also having the bottom thereof extended below said strap member to form an extensive reinforcement for the strap member and upright at the junction thereof and having the lateral widened portions and the upward projection joined by diagonal portions covering the meeting angles of said upright and strap member above the latter.
