DISPLAY STAND FOR DISPLAYING MERCHANDISE Filed April 1, 1947 INVENTORS IQ/QSfzM m f J. W. Biawzn Patented Nov. 30, 1948 DISPLAY STAND FOR DISPLAYING MERCHANDISE Raymond B, Stewart and John W. Biewen, Fairfield, Iowa, assignors to Universal Producing Company, Fairfield, Iowa, a corporation of Iowa Application April 1, 1947, Serial No. 738,558
The present invention relates to means for use in stores for displaying merchandise to be sold, and more particularly, although not necessarily limited to that use, for the display of basket liners for converting an ordinary bushelibas'ket into a desirable clothes basket. Among the objects of this invention are the provision of an effective display stand for supporting a bushel basket lined with an oilcloth liner which is used to keep clothes out of contact with the basket; the provision of a suitable support for effectively displaying merchandise for sale; and such further objects, advantages, and capabilities as will hereafter appear and as are inherent in the structure herein disclosed. Our invention further resides in the combination, construction, and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and, while we have shown therein what is now regarded as the preferred embodiment of this invention, we desire the same to be understood as illustrative only and not to be interpreted in a limiting sense.
In the drawings annexed hereto and forming a part hereof,
Fig. 1 shows a side elevation of a structure embodying our present invention, a basket supported thereby being shown in broken lines; and
Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of this display stand, shown in side elevation in Fig. 1.
References will now be made in greater detail to the annexed drawings for a more complete description of this invention. In these'drawings, a supporting base is shown at l and from this base rises a standard 2 which is inclined somewhat in order to bring the supported weight approximately over the point of connection of the standard 2 to the base I. A head 3 is secured to the standard 2 by means of bolts 4, this head having upstanding ears 5 to be engagedbythe bottom of the basket 6, the lower bottom edge of which rests on the curved upper surface of the head. This head has arms 1 extending forwardly in the same general direction as the supporting arm 8 which may also be referred to asa container support. This arm 8 is secured to the standard 2 and head 3 by the same bolts I mentioned above. The arm 8 has at its forward end a hook 9 under which the edge of the basket 6 engages in order that the basket may be definitely positioned and held in place.
This display stand, slightly modified, may be found useful for other purposes as, for example, for supporting baskets of fruit in a position to be effectively displayed. This can easily be done by having the head and container-support tipped back just a little so that the basket is held in a more upright position. a
'4 Claims. (Cl. 248-158) It is of course understood that the specific description of structure set forth above may be departed from without departing from the spirit of this invention as described in this specification and as defined in the appended claims.
Having now described our invention, we claim:
1. A display stand comprising a supporting base, a standard rising therefrom, a supporting head projecting laterally in both directions from the upper end portion of the standard, and containerholding means projecting from the head and from the standard for securely supporting a container in display positions, said means having a container-engaging hook for engaging with a container to hold it in display position.
2. A display stand comprising, in combination, a base, a standard rising therefrom in a sligthly inclined position, a container-support above the base, projecting thereover and having a container-engaging hook adjacent its free end, andahead connected with the standard and cooperating with the container-support in displaying a container.
3. A display stand for basket liners comprising a base, a standard secured thereto, rising therefrom and inclined slightly with relation thereto, a laterally extending arm secured to the upper end portion of the standard and having at its remote end a hook for engagement with a container to assist in supporting it, and a head secured to the standard and arm to engage the container and cooperate with the hook in holding the container in display position.
4. A display stand for displaying basl etliners, comprising a base, a standard attached thereto and rising therefrom in a slightly inclined posi tion, a head detachably attached to the upper end portion of the standard, and a supporting arm detachably connected to the standard and head, said arm having an upwardly directed hook on its remotely located end portion, said head having a curved body portion from which a plurality of projections extend in the general direction of said arm.
