This invention relates to improvements in bed lamps.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved bed lamp which may be supported upon the head of a bed.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved bed lamp for attaching to the head board of a bed, said lamp being provided with an arcuate shutter or closure member mounted in guide trackways in the ends of the lamp body, whereby the shutter or closure member may be opened or closed at will to control the amount of light emanating from said lamp.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved bed lamp comprising a tubular body being longitudinally apertured and formed with trackways in its opposite ends in which an arcuate shutter or closure member is slidably and adjustably received, together with resilient means associated with said shutter or closure member to hold the same in the desired adjusted position.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved bed lamp which may be used as a night lamp for sickrooms, or as a bed lam for hotel use or in private homes, said lamp being highly efiiicent in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a tubular lamp body I having round disk-shaped end closure members 2 and 3, the same being formed with the inwardly directed peripheral guide tracks channels 4 and 5, respectively, and suitably secured to the ends of said body I.
A longitudinally extending opening 6 is formed between the spaced longitudinal edges 7 and 8 of the body i, and cooperates with the longitudinally extending arcuate door or closure member 9 slidably and rotatably received in the guide channels or tracks 4 and at the ends of said body I. A forwardly extending tab In is formed integrally on the central edge of said closure 9 providing a handle means for sliding said closure member 9 upwardly and downwardly to close and open the opening 6 to vary the amount of light emanating from the electric bulb II supported in the electric socket l2 fixed through the end closure member 2.
' A pair of arcuate spring tensioning arms I 3 and H are secured to the inside surface of the outer wall of the guide tracks or channels 4 and 5, and are bent inwardly to contact the inner surface of the closure member 9 to resiliently tension the same as it is moved to open and close the opening 6, thereby providing a resiliently tensioned stop means for holding the closure member 9 in the desired adjusted position, and also limiting the degree which said closure may be opened.
A pair of inverted U-shaped attaching brackets l5 and [6 are suitably secured to the outer surface of the body I adjacent its opposite ends, and are provided with the locking set screws l1 and I8 respectively for locking the lamp upon the head board of a bed. I
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been devised and provided a highly efficient form of bed lamp which may be utilized in a sickroom to provide ample illumination for working with a patient, or when said closure member is closed to completely outoff the light in the room so that the patient will not be disturbed.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to Without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A lamp comprising a tubular body, disk shaped cap members secured at the opposite ends thereof, inwardly directed peripheral guide channels formed in the cap members, a longitudinal opening constructed and arranged in the body and extending the longitudinal length of the body, an arcuate elongated closure member slidably received in the guide channels, a forwardly extending tab on said closure member, arcuate spring tensioning arms secured to the inner surface of the outer wall of the guide channels and engaging the guided surface of the closure member, a pair of inverted U-shaped brackets integrally formed on the side wall of the tubular body, locking set screws positioned therein for detiohabiy cia'mp V UNITED STATES PATENTS ing the lamp on a support, a, centrally disposed Number 7 Name 1 Date opening in one of the end caps, and a lamp socket 605,529 Ward June 14, 1898 supported therein for positioning within the tubu- 1 193 579 Mahan 8 1916- lar body- 5 12111759 Robins Jan. 9, 191': RALPH K 1,891,971 Crane Dec. 27, 1932 Almer 178:
