The present invention relates to an improvement in lighting apparatus, one object being to providea device which is'capable of ornamental embodiment and which may be of relatively simple'and inexpensive construction. An embodiment'of my invention is illustrated in the drawings accompanying the present specification and in which--.-

Referring to thev drawings, an electric lamp or bulb 1 is mounted in a socket 2 supported at oneend of a hollow nipple ,3 which is in turn soldered or otherwise secured to a hollow ring 4 through which lead wires 5 and 6 pass on their way to thesocket 2. A translucent lamp covering body 7 preferably ornamental in form and color is mounted to enclose the lamp 1. Where the ornamental body is made of celluloid or other similar compositions, a slit 8 will be provided, said slit being arranged to communicate with a hole 9 adapted to receive and engage the lamp supporting member, in this case shown as the nipple 3. Another hole or opening 10 also communicates with the slit 8. In assembling, the lamp 1 is inserted into the interior of the ornamental body by pressing the lamp between the edges of the slit 8. lVhere the body is made oi celluloid or other resilient material, the portions thereof adjacent to said slit will yield sufiiciently to permit the passage of the lamp and will thereafter resume their normal closed position. Where the ornamental body member 7 is of relatively elongated form. as for example the bird form illustrated in the drawings, it will be advantageous to provide means for maintaining the body member in any predetermined position of balance. For this purpose, a weight 11 .is inserted through the slit 8 and normally positioned in the lower end of the hollow body 7. A weight retaining clip 12 engages 1926. Serial No. 125,631.

It is contemplated that the device hereinabove described will be sold as a complete assembled unit. Accordingly, it will be desirable to prevent the weight 11 from shifting its position. A terminal plug 15 accominodates the leads 5 and 6. An opening 16 is provided in an upperportion of the'hollow body 7 for the purpose of ventilation. 1 I claim as my invention: 7
1. In lighting apparatus, the combination of an electric lamp socket support and a lamp enclosingmember consisting of a hol-' low translucent celluloid body of elongated form having a slit adjacent to one end and a hole communicating with said slit for engaging said socket support, and a weight positioned inside one end of said body.
2. In lighting apparatus, the combination of an electric lamp socket support and a lamp enclosing member consisting of a 1101-.

3. In lighting apparatus the conibination' of an electric lamp socket support, alamp enclosing member consisting of a hollow translucent body having a slit and a socket support engaging hole cbmmnnicating therewith, and a second hole communicating with said slit between its ends. a weight within said body. and means interposed between said weight and said second mentioned hole to retain the weight in operative position.
