The present invention relates to lamps such as used for decorating Christmas trees and the like.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved construction and arrangement of lamps of this type and for a consideration of what I believe to be novel and my invention, attention is directed to the following description and the claims appended thereto.

145 Referring to the drawing, the lamp has a split casing comprising two abutting cross-shaped parts I of light transmitting material, such as molded artificial resin. The parts of the casing maybe oi other shapes. The resin is preferably translucent so that it will diffuse the light from an electric light bulb enclosed within the casing and may be of any desired color. The parts of the casing abut along the edges of the arms of the cross and are spaced apart between the edges to provide space for enclosing an electric light bulb. At the ends of the arms at the bottom and sides of the cross, the abutting parts of the easing are provided with opposed bosses 2, over each pair of which fits a U-shaped spring clip 3 which holds the parts of the casing together. 'The spring clips extend along the walls of the casing and fit within grooves 3a in the bosses which prevent removal of the clips over the ends of the bosses. The ends of the spring clips are provided with reentrant portions 4 which cooperate with the edges of the bosses and resiliently hold the clips on the bosses against longitudinal displacement. The spring clips 3 provide a convenient means for holding the parts of the casing together. displacement between the parts of the casing. The conductors are connected at one end to a plug 8 and at the other end to a lamp socket 9 into which is threaded an electric light bulb Hi. When the lamp is suspended from the conductors the lamp socket 9 rests against the lower edge of the bushing 6 and thereby supports the lamp casing from the conductors. By having the notches in the parts of the casing formed at the abutting edges, the parts of the casing may be assembled around the lamp after the conductors have been connected to the lamp socket.

In the use .of the lamp, the plug 8 is threaded into a receptacle, such as a lamp socket thereby completing the circuit to the electric light bulb Hi. The lamp socket may serve as a support from which the lamp is suspended. The light from the electric light bulb is diffused by the walls of the casing, providing a luminous cross which serves as an attractive decoration.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

l. A lamp comprising a split casing adapted to enclose an electric light bulb and socket therefor, means for securing the parts of the casing together, complementary notches in the abutting edges of the parts of the casing, a bushing loosely surrounding a conductor leading to the light bulb whereby the conductor is slidable' through the bushing, and a groove in said bushing into which the edges of said notches fit, the opening through 4 the bushing being of less diameter than the socket whereby the casing is supported by said conductor.

2. A lamp comprising a split casing adapted to enclose anelectric light bulb, means for securing the parts of the casing together, a bushing loosely surrounding a conductor leading to the Y light bulb whereby the conductor is slidable through the bushing, said bushing being held be; tween the abutting edges of the parts of the casing, and means on said conductor within the casing of greater diameter than the opening through said bushing whereby the casingvis supported by said conductor.
