Patented Sept. 7, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DRAWER FOR REFRIGERATED LOCKERS William McKinley Baird, Chicago, Ill.
Original application March 22, 1944, Serial No. 527,581. Divided and this application March 26, 1947, Serial No. 737,197
1 Claim. 1
This application is a divisional application from application Serial No. 527,581, filed March 22, 1944, for Refrigerated locker construction.
It is among the obieets of my invention to provide a refrigerated locker construction in which the drawers are Preferably closed with a swingable hinged cover and have no wire mesh section, thereby preventing air from flowing into and through the drawers and dehydrating the contents thereof.
I also provide an air duct in the front of the drawer container and between the drawer container and drawer head for cooling the contents of the front portion of the drawer container. My drawer container has a corrugated ribbed bottom to prevent freezer burn.
My drawer for refrigerated lockers also has such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by my invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawings a preferred form of my invention, yet it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. l is a side elevational view of my drawer; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my drawer; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the exterior of my drawer; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary View of my drawer, partly in section.
In the embodiment selected to illustrate my invention my drawer I9 is slidable in the cabinet of a refrigerated locker system, cooled by forced circulation of cold air, and is withdrawable by the user without the user having to enter the chilled interior of the cabinet.
My drawer I9 consists of a drawer head 20 and to the rear a container portion 2|. The drawer head 20 has a face plate 3| and a rear member 32. A breaker strip 33 is attached to face plate 3| and rear member 32 and closes the space therebetween.
Angles 38 are attached to rear member 32. The side walls 4| of the container 2| have front extensions 13 which contact angles 38. Screws 2 'I4 extend through angles 3S and extensions 73 to attach drawer head 20 to container portion 2|. The insulated drawer head 2li is spaced from the drawer container 2| to leave an air space 953 therebetween.
My drawer container 2| has a ribbed or corrugated bottom 15 and a straight back lili made from one sheet of metal. The bottom 'l5 and back 40, the two sides 4| and the front t2 may be bolted or welded together as desired.
The rear portion of the drawer container 21 has a top plate 52 which is permanently attached to the back 4U and the two sides 4|.
On the front edge 53 of the top plate 52 is attached a hinged cover or lid 54, with an overlapping downwardly extending lip 55, and a hand louvre 56 for the raising of the cover or lid 5d.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A drawer for refrigerated lockers cooled by forced circulation of air comprising a front head portion having a pair of rearwardly extending fixed angle members, a rear imperiorate conn tainer portion having a pair of xed extensions extending forwardly beyond said container portion, the forward portions of said extensions con tacting the rear portions of said angle members and leaving a space between said container portion and said front head portion for the down ward passage of the forced air therethrough for cooling the front of said container portion, and means extending through said extensions and said angle members for rigidly attaching said container portion to said front head portion. WILLIAM MCKINLEY BAIRD.
