COMBINATION TABLE AND REFRIGERATOR.
Application filed October 1, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK Cook, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Tables and Refrigerators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an article of furniture and more particularly to a com bination refrigerator and table.
An object of the invention is to provide an article of furniture which embodies, in a single article, a refrigerator and a table so that perishable commodities may be kept fresh and handy, and further to provide a novel combination and arrangement of parts whereby an artistic appearing structure is provided.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of this nature which may be utilized as an ordinary breakfast table hav ing the refrigerant containing compartment arranged to have exterior communication with the building in which it is mounted so that it may be charged or refilled from the outside of the building.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description and in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved combination table and refrigerator.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the combination table and refrigerator.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical section through the combination refrigerator and table taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section of a modified form of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing the improved article of furniture comprises a main body 1 which is supported upon suitable supporting legs 2 and which is divided into a plurality of compartments 3 and 4, and refrigerant containing compartment 5, centrally located relative to the Serial No. 504,588.
placed within the compartments 3. The
compartments & are located above the compartments 3 and are adapted to contain drawers 7 in which dishes and table wear may be stored when not in use. The combination table and refrigerator is formed in a plurality of sections namely, a central section and end sections the end sections being removable so that if it is. desired the device may be taken apart. The outer walls of the refrigerant containing compartment 5 have plates or blocks 8 attached thereto which are adapted to fit into the adjacent end of the compartments 3 to facilitate the assembling of the device and to insure proper positioning of the various parts as well as substantially air-tight connection of the compartments 3 with the remainder of the combination table and refrigerator. Suitable guide pins 9 are carried by the walls of the compartment 5 and are adapted to extend through brace strips 10 carried by'the walls of the compartments 3. Access is had to the compartments 3 through suitable doors 11 which may have any type of artistic knobs 12 to facilitate opening and closing of the doors. The top 13 of the combination table and refrigerator is extensible, that is, the sections 14: and 15 thereof'are slidably supported by the main body of the combination table and refrigerator and may be moved inwardly into the position as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing or extended laterally as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing at which time a central or auxiliary leaf 16 is placed between their facing spaced edges. The ice is placed in the refrigerant containing compartment 5 through the top thereof and a suitable door 17 is provided which, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, is placed beneath the table top 13. To gain access to the interior of the compartment 5 it is necessary to move the sections 14: and 15 of the table top outwardly, for which suitable finger grips 18 are provided after which the door 17 may be moved into open position and the ice placed within the compartment 5. A partition 19 extends across the compartment 5 and is provided with a drain opening 20 to permit the draining of water therefrom into the drain pan 21 positioned in the compartment 22 formed below the partition 19. Suitable hinged members 23 are provided for permitting removal of the drain pan 21. A faucet 24 is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. It is to be understood that this faucet may have connection with a suitable water cooling compartment if desired.
In Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawing a modificd form of the device is shown, which modified "form is adapted for permanent attachment to a wall as shown at A and for use as a breakfast table. In this construction the ice compartment is positioned at one end of the combination table and refrigerator structure 36 and it has a door 37 which the wall A is a opens out through a suitable opening '38 formed in the wall A so as to permit ice to be placed in'the compartment35 of which part. A suitable locking hook 39 is provided'for locking the door 37 and the compartment 35 is also provided with a side door 40 which opens out into the room in 'whichthe combination table and refrigerator 36 is mounted so as to permit access to the interior of the ice compartment' from the interior of the room in which it is'mounted and for the purpose of either looking or unlocking a suitable type of lock mechanism 41 may be provided. The water o'fthe melted ice drains from the compartment 35 through a suitable drain pipe 42 which may pass through the wall A. The partition 43 between the ice or refrigerant containing compartment 35 and the food containing compartment'44 is provided with a plurality of openings 45 to permit the cold air to passthrough the compartment "35 into the compartment 44. The top 46 of the modified form of the combination refrigerator and table may be extensible if desired as illustrated and described in reference to Figs. 1 to 3 of the drawings and the.
structure is provided with suitable drawers or compartments above the compartments 35 and 44 to permit the placing therein of table wear, linen or the like.
different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. In a combination table and refrigerator a main structure rigidly secured to a wall, and arefrigerant containing compartment in said main structure, said wall provided with an opening adapted to have communication with said refrigerant compartment, a door for cutting off communication between said refrigerant compartment and the opening in said wall, a second door extending outwardly through the side of said refrigerant compartment.
2. In a combinationtable and refrigerator .a main structure rigidly secured to'a wall,
and a refrigerant containing compartment in said main structure, said wall provided'with an opening adapted to have communication with'said refrigerant compartment, a door for cutting off communication between said refrigerant compartment and the opening in saidwalh'aperishable commodities containing compartment carried by said main body and separated from said refrigerant compartmentby awall, said wall provided with openings to'permit communication between the refrigerant containing and perishable commodities containing compartments.
3. In a combination table and refrigerator a main structure rigidly secured to-a wall, and a refrigerant containing compartment in said main structure,'said wall provided with an opening adapted to have communication with said refrigerant compartment, a door for cuttlng off communicatlon be tween said refrigerant compartment and the opening in said wall, and a drain pipe extending through said wall and having communication with said refrigerant containing compartment.
4. In a combination table and refrigerator a main structure rigidly secured to a wall,
and a refrigerant containing compartment in said main structure, said wall provided with an opening adapted to have communication with said refrigerant compartment,
a door for cutting off communication between said refrigerant compartment and the opening in said wall, a second door extending outwardly through the side of said refrigerant compartment, a perishable commodities containing compartment carried by said main body and separated from said refrigerant compartment by a wall, said'wall provided with openings to permit communication between the refrigerant containing and perishable commodities containing compartments. v
5. Ina combination table and refrigerator a main structure rigidly secured to a wall,
and a refrigerant containing compartment in said main structure, said wall provided with an opening adapted to have communication with said refrigerant compartment, a door for cutting off communication between said refrigerant compartment and the opening in said wall, a second door extending outwardly through the side of said refrigerant compartment, a perishable commodities con- 1 taining compartment carried by said main body and separated from said refrigerant compartment by a wall, said wall provided with openings to permit communication be tween the refrigerant containing and perishable commodities containing compartments, and a drain pipe extending through said wall and having communication with said refrigerant containing compartment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FREDERICK COOK.
