Description

July 6, 1948. A. LINDER 2,4,fl
HAIR CLIP Filed Aug. 27, 1946 Ira/v entoz JQLL lira/02 81 Patented July 6, 1948 HAIR CLIP Aka Linder, Stockholm, Sweden Application August 27, 1946, Serial No. 693,285 In Sweden September 8, 1945 2 Claims.
The present invention refers to a hair clip which is particularly suitable for the fixing of hair dresses, said clip permitting of being readily inserted and removed.
The hair clip according to the invention is principally distinguished by the feature that a pivot pin is arranged on a bar or plate provided with a central opening, said pin extending in parallel relation to the plane of the plate and having mounted thereon two double-armed levers thrust through the opening in the plate, said levers being spring-actuated in such manner as to tend to swing in opposite directions, so that the arms thrust through the opening are kept resiliently pressed against the plate.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 is a plan view and Fig. 2 an elevation of a form of embodiment of the invention.
In the drawing, l designates a plate from metal, artificial resin or the like with downwardly folded lateral edges 2. Provided at the center of the plate is a rectangular opening 3 with upwardly projecting flaps 4 along two opposed edges, said flaps serving as attachments for a pivot pin 5 parallelling the plate I and forming a shaft for hubs 6 on two double-armed levers 1, 8 and 9, l0, respectively, the one arm 8 and II], respectively, of which forms a handle, while the other arm I and 9, respectively, forms a clamping shank cooperating with the plate I. Arranged about the pivot pin 5 is a spring II, the ends l2, l3 of which bear each on one of the levers 1, 8 and 9, l0, respectively.
When the hair clip is applied, the handles 8, ID are grasped between the thumb and the index-finger and brought, against the action of the spring H, into the position indicated by chaindotted lines in Fig. 2, whereupon the clip shanks l, 9 are thrust into the curl l4 indicated by chain-dotted lines. When the handles 8, ID are then released, the curl will be clamped between the clip shanks l, 9 and the plate I. The downwardly folded edges then serve to retain the curl effectively.
The invention is not confined to the form of embodiment disclosed. For example, the handles 8, ID as well as the clip shanks 1, 9 may take some other form, for instance an undulate or curved shape. The plate, also, may take some other, for instance a round shape. The hair clip may be provided with a hair ornament, such as a rosette.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A hair clip consisting of a plate provided with an aperture, said plate having mounted thereon two double-armed spring-actuated levers thrust through said aperture, the one arms of which levers form clamping shanks cooperating with the plate, while the other arms thereof form handles for the manipulation of the clip.
2. A hair clip according to claim 1, characterized by the plate being provided with downwardly folded edges.
AKE LINDER.
