SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,049, dated July 12, 1881.

Y art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of my invention is to preserve returned checks in the original book form when adhesively attached to their stubs.
The nature of my invention is the coating of the check end of each stub in the check-book with adhesive matter of the required Width to hold the returned check when reattached. My invention is carried into effect thus:Y
The check or order book is manufactured with adhesive stubs, as herein set forth. When the check and stub are prepared the check is taken from the check-book, leaving the stub with an adhesive end or edge in the book, and when the check has done its Work and is returned the adhesive matter on stub or the proper end of check is moistened, the check applied to stub, and securely fastened in its original place. When the last one is returned and fastened the book is ready for shelf or safe.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent o f the United States, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a checkbook having upon its check-stubs a coating of adhesive matter, whereby each detached check, when returned, may be reattaclied to its book proper and at its original location, substantially as set forth.
