j 6 Claims. l This invention relates to improvements in holders for mounting and supporting cards, photographs and the like, and more particularly to the provision of a holder having novel `retaining means formed thereon. A

It is an object of the present invention to adapt a generally conventional holder of standard size and of the class comprising a holder body having a sheath embracing the lower marginal edge thereof and a plurality of slits or slots formed adjacent the upper marginal edge thereof, for the reception of pairs of cards or photographs of standard size in a compact arrangement which has heretofore been difficult to attain, r

Referring to the drawings. the reference numeral I Il indicates a holder body of flexible sheet material having a hinge II defined by the line of perforations I 2 and thereby adapted for ilexible mounting in a suitable holder or binder by means off a suitable hanger. not shown. Although not illustrated, other conventional hinge mounting means for the holder may be employed. In like conventional manner the `holder rbody I0 has a sheath I3 embracing the lower marginal edge thereof, which sheath may be of a transparent plastic such as Celluloid, secured thereto by the staples Il adjacent the side edges of the body. An intermediate staple Il may be employed engaging at least one face of the sheath to the holder body. The sheath Il is adapted for reception of the lower marginal edges of cards or photographs to be mounted on the holder, and for reception of certain 'of the upper corners of such mounted articles, the holder body. I0 adjacent its side edges is provided with the obliquely extending slot pairs i8 and i1 adjacent its upper marginal edge. Thus by means of the sheath Il and the slot pairs I8 or I1, cards or photographs can be mounted on both faces of the holder, as conventional.

A holder of such class, and as illustrated inv Figs. 1 and 2, in for example a standard size of 8 x 10, while suitable for mounting 8 x l0 inch photographs on one or vboth faces, 'has been heretofore considered too narrow in width to be vadapted for the support of two 5 x 7 linch photographs on one or both faces. However, in accordance with the present invention such standard size holder has been adapted for the reception of pairs of 5 x 'l photographs on one or both faces, or a pair on one face and an 8 x 1'0 photograph or card on the opposed face, in a manner whereby the 5 x '7 inch cards or photographs are engaged by supplementary holder means which prevents their lateral displacement While retaining them in close proximity .y

Thus, in accordance with the' present` invention, I provide an inwardly disposed tongue I8 medially of the holder body, and defined therefrom by the slit I9 which slit may be of arcuate form such as an arc of180 in extent, the opposed ends of the slit having their inception on a line parallel to a holder edgesuch as the illustrated upper marginal edge of the holder and adjacent thereto. A pair of offset slits 20 and 2l are further provided, both parallel to slit I8, each extending in opposite directions from a line bisecting tongue I8 to its respective ends, these slits 20 and` 2| being suitably of 90 arcuate extent 'when slit I9 is of 180. The slit 20 is formed on the tongue I8 Whereas the slit 20 is formed on the holder, body, bothv being substantially equally spaced from slit I9.

As shown in Fig. 1, a pair of inserts 22 and 23, such as cards or photographs may be mounted on the holder by inserting their lower edges with'- in the sheath I3 and the outer upper corners within the diagonal slotsA I6. The upper inner corner of the card 22 is inserted through the slits 2l and I 9 and held by the strip 28 formed between them, and the inner upper corner of the card 23 is inserted through the slits I9 and 20 'i and Aheld by the strip 2l formed on the tongue, permitting the two cards to be mounted in very close and substantially touching relationship and yet held against lateral displacement, the adjacent and contiguous ends of the strips 26 and V the inner upper corner of card 2l through slit II.

When'a center staple I5 is employed in engagement with only one leg of the sheath I3, 'a pair of 5 x 7 photographs may be mounted on one faceof the holder and an 8 x 10 photograph on the opposed face withits upper corners extended through diagonal slots I'l.

A holder for inserts such as cards, photographs `andthe like comprising a body and a plurality of insert engaging means provided thereon, one of said insert engaging means being constructed and arranged to receive in close proximity the adjacent corners .of pairs of inserts mounted on the opposed faces of said holder and comprising an inwardly disposed tongue defined by an arcuate slit formed in'said'body, and a pair of offset slits parallel thereto, one being formed on said -tongue and the other. on said body and extending-in opposed directions vfrom a line bisecting said rst slit.

A holder for inserts such as cards, photo-' graphs and the like comprising a body and a plurality of insert engaging meansprovided thereon, one of said insert engaging meansbeing constructed and arranged to receive in close i proximity theadjacent corners of pairs of vinformed on said tongue and the other on said bodyv one being formed on said tongue and the other on the holder body and extending in` opposed directions from a line bisectingfsaid tongue.
