PEN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 243,255, dated June 21, 1881.
Application filed April 22, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL HEPP, of Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Pen- Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to enable several parallel lines to be drawn at one stroke of the pen. It consists-in connecting two penholders to one staff, and securing them together by set-screws, so that they can be easily and quickly adjusted to enable the pens to draw several parallel lines.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the arrangement of the holders on the stafi' with the pens in position. Figs. 2 and 3 are views of the tubes connecting the two holders together.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A is the staff of the pen, carrying an ordinary metal holder, B. B is a second pen-holder, of the same kind precisely as B.
O O are two tubes placed together side by side and soldered. Their connection is further strengthened by a band, a, passed around them, binding them together. Set-screws b b are passed through the band over each tube,

and thence through the tubes. The tubes thus placed together form thimbles, which slip readily over the barrels of the holders.
The manner of using the device is as follows: The two holders are placed in the thimbles and secured by the set-screws. The pens c a are inserted in the holders, single or double nibbed pens, or one of each kind, being used, as in the drawings. Ifthe pens are of different lengths, their nibs can be brought to the same plane by a proper adjustment of the holders in the thimhles. 'In this way the two holders and the pens are firmly connected together and to the statt'. In using them the two nibs are placed upon the paper at the same time, and thus several parallel lines can be drawn at the same stroke.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improvement in pen-holders, the tubes 0 (3, connected together by solder and the band a, and provided with set-screws b b, in combination with holders B B and staff A, substantially as described.
