1 Claim. (Cl. 2061.5)
The present invention relates to boxes for holding bottles of perfume, cosmetic packages and various other articles.
An object of this invention is to provide-a novel and improved box structure having a hinged top and locking means therefor.
A further object hereof is to provide a novel and improved box having a hinged top and also a locking means therefor, which may be used to serve as the applicator of perfume or cosmetic material housed within the box.
Another object of this inventionis to provide a novel and improved box of the character mentioned, whose locking means is both decorative and otherwise useful.
Another object hereof is to provide an article of the kind described, which is beautiful in appearance, reasonably cheap to manufacture, easy to use, and efficient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this disclosure proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, similar characters I of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a box structure shown in open condition and constructed in accordance with the teachings of this invention. A component used to lock the box, is here not shown.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing such component. I
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing said box structure in closed and locked condition.
Fig. 4 is a section taken at line 44 in Fig. 3.
In the drawings, the box structure indicated generally by the numeral l5, consists of an upright lower box IE, and an inverted upper box l1 positioned atop member H6, in rim to rim contact relation and both hingedly associated at the rear of the structure about a horizontal axis l3; member l1, thus serving as the cover for the box structure 15.
Interior the box member l6, a channel member 19 carried therein, forms with the front wall IS, a substantially upright chute 20-, which is closed at its bottom by an element 2|, which is like a step extending inwardly into the box struc ture, laterally from said front wall l6. Said chute 20, is open at its top which commences at the rim of box member I6.
Interior the box member [1, a channel member 22 carried therein, forms with the front wall ll, a substantially upright chute 23, which is closed 2 at its top by 25. Said chute 23 is open at its bottom which commences at the rim of the .box member ll. Both chutes 2B and 23 are in alignment when the box structure I5 is closed.
A locking member designated generally by the numeral 25, adapted to be positioned within said chutes, is viewable and accessible from the front of the box structure I5, through slot or opening 26 in front wall It, and through slot or opening 2'! in wall ll of the cover member l'l.
The upper portion 25' of the locking member '25, is adaptable to be slidably positioned along chute 23, while when the box structure is closed after said locking member is so positioned, its bottom portion 25 will enter opening 26; dimensions of the parts being such as to so permit, as well as to afford upward movement of the looking member through distance A. When the box structure with associated locking membertherein is so closed, said locking member 25, by its own weight will fall so that the lower end thereof shall enter slot 2 i in step 2 l, whereby the box is locked. To open, said member 25 is slid upwardly until it is free of engagement in said slot 2!, whereupon members I5 and it are free for movement with respect to each other about their hinge connection l8.
Said locking member 25 may assume any decorative form, as for instance that of an arrow as illustrated, which carries a corking member 28,-
whereby said member might also be used as a stopper for bottle 29 ordinarily housed in said box structure I5, and if desired as an applicator of its contents.
This invention is capable of numerous forms and various applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended and desired that the particular description herein be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and that the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; reference being had to the following claim rather than to the specific embodiment herein to indicate the scope of this invention.
I claim:
In an article of the character described, a lower upright receptacle, an upper inverted receptacle; said receptacles being positioned in rim to rim contact relation forming a closed box structure and hingedly associated at their respective rears whereby the upper receptacle serves as a swingable cover for the lower receptacle, a track means carried on the front wall of the upper receptacle, adapted to permit up and down slidable movement therealong, an element carried later,-
3 ally by thefront wall of the lower receptacle having an Opening; both receptacles being formed with longitudinal rearwardly extending channels; both said chanenls being continuous when the box structure is closed; the track means being part of the channel associated with the upper receptacle and the element mentioned being positioned across the channel associated with the lower receptacle; said channels being open along the front of the, box structure, and a separate locking member being substantially housed within said channels when mounted to lock the box, the upper portion of said locking member being adapted to be removably slidably received in said track means only when said receptacles are swung apart, and when so mounted, said-locking REFERENCES CITED The following references are of. record in the file. of this patent:
