Description

Oct. 21, 1947. R. P. L. VEYT BELT FOR BABIES AND OTHER SMALL CHILDREN Filed Nov. 29, 1945 Patented Oct. 21, 1947 BELT FORlBABIES-iAND OTHER SMALL CHILDREN Raymond PaulLouis Veyt, Brussels, Belgium, as-
' signor to Baby Fix, Socit Anonyme, Brussels, Belgium, a Belgian company Application November 29, 1945, Serial Nb. 631,610: In Belgium February 16, 1944 3 Claims.
My invention relates to a belt for babies and other small children, the function of the belt being to limit the movements of the child, for example, in his chair, perambulator, playpen, or
bed or other enclosed space.
An object of the invention is to provide a belt which does not suffer from the inconveniences to which belts made of leather (expensive and scarce) and having metal fittings are subject. A further object of the invention is to provide a belt having adjustment facilities which enable the belt to continue in use during the gradual growth of the child.
With those objects in view, the belt is essentially characterized in that it is made of a band or strip of woven fabric or cloth which may be provided at its ends with tapes or strings and in which band are formed, preferably at a short distance from one of the ends of the band, one or more slits or openings for the passage therethrough of one of the end portions of the band or strip so that the latter may be drawn tightly around the child after the band or strip has been placed about the child and then fixed in position by both ends whatever may be the corpulence of the child.
In one practical embodiment of the invention, the band is provided with two slits or openings suitably separated along the length thereof to enable one of the extremities of the band, before knotting, first to pass towards the outside and afterwards to the inside of the belt with two parts of the band between the said slits superposed to ensure a better tightening of the belt.
The drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 shows, in perspective, the belt open, and
Figure 2 shows the belt in position for use,
As shown by these drawings, the belt forming the subject matter of the invention, includes a band or strip of an appropriate textile fabric provided at both of its extremities with two tapes or strings 2 preferably formed by cutting out the end portion of the band or strip.
In the band or strip I are formed two slits or openings 3 and 4; these are provided near one extremity of the band or strip at a relatively short distance from the roots of the tapes or strings 2 so as to permit the other end portion of the band being passed, after placing the belt around the child, through the slit or opening 3 towards the exterior of the belt and then through the opening or slit 4 towards the inside of the belt. It is then possible, with the help of tapes or strings 2, to fasten the extremities of the belt to, for example, a, chair, a perambulator, a playpen, a bed; etc., the extremity which has been passed 'through the openings 3 and 4 being brought back to the outside by a third opening 5.
To obtain a good tightening of the belt the band should be provided with two openings such as 3 and 4 suitably spaced along the length of the strip; but, as the body of the child becomes -more corpulent, a good control of the tightening can also be obtained with only one opening in the belt.
The possibility of manufacturing a belt from asingle band or strip of fabric or cloth in such a way as to provide the aforesaid controls represent the outstanding advantages achieved by the invention.
It should also be noted that the belt can be fastened either at the front or at the back of the child.
It is also possible to combine with the belt two braces 6 which are tied together at an extremity after passing through openings 'l8 formed in the belt while the other end is fixed in it.
What I claim is:
1. A belt for babies or other small children formed of a band of woven fabric provided with tapes at both ends, two slits being out in the band at different spots along the length of the band, the first of said two slits being at a relatively short distance from the roots of the tapes corresponding to one end portion, whereby the other end portion of the band may be passed, after placing the belt around the child, through the said first slit towards the exterior of the band and then through the second slit towards the inside of the belt, two parts of the band between the said slits being superposed between the said slits and it is possible to cause the belt to be drawn tightly around the child and after the tapes have been knotted to fix the belt in position by both ends whatever may be the corpulence of the child.
2. A belt for babies or other small children formed of a band of woven fabric provided with tapes at both ends, three slits being cut in the band at different spots along the length of the band, the first of said two slits being at a relatively short distance from the roots of the tapes corresponding to one end portion whereby the other end portion of the band may be passed, after placing the belt around the child, through the said first slit towards the exteriorv of the band and then through the following slit towards the inside of the belt and finally again i V 3 to the exterior through the third opening to permit the tightening of the band and its fixation by knotting of the tapes whatever may be the corpulence of the child.
3. A belt for babies or other small children formed of a band of woven fabric provided with tapes at both endsymeans whereby, after placing the belt around the child, one end portion of the band is caused to pass through the belt towards the exterior of the latter, the belt is 10 caused to be drawn tightly around the child and the tapes are knotted to fix the belt in postion by both ends whatever may be the corpulence of p The fo1lowing references are of record in the file of this patent:
