COVER FOR BABIES BEDS Filed Oct. 26, 1933 INVENTOR. [Fl mg [/796/ BY 15 la A TTORNEY Patented June 19, 1934 COVER FOR BABIES BEDS Irving Engel, Jackson Heights, N. Y.
Application October 26, 1933, Serial No. 695,228
3 Claims.
One object of this invention is the provision of a blanket or cover adapted particularly for use on babies or infants beds or cribs, the cover being provided with means for attaching or tying the same securely to the bed in suchmanner that it cannot become loose or detached and hence cannot fall or slide off, thus assuring the security of the infant against becoming uncovered.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a cover as above-mentioned, in combination with means secured to the bed proper, to which the attaching means on the cover are adapted to be tied or secured in any desirable manner.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a 2 fragmentary perspective view of a babys bed with the cover embodying this invention, attached.
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the cover per se, together with one of the straps which is adapted to be secured to the bed.
Referring briefly to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates the frame of a babys bed, having the mattress 11 mounted thereon. About each end of the horizontal portion of the bed frame 10, straps 12, having the adjustable buckles 13, are encircled. Disposed on opposite sides of the strap 12 when in position on the bed frame as above-mentioned, are slidable, metallic eyeletsupporting members 14, each having the eyelet or ring 15 pivotally mounted on its end.
At either end of the blanket or cover 17, a strap 16 is sewn, or otherwise attached, in crosswise fashion, the opposite ends of this strap projecting beyond the edges of the cover 17. On
each of these opposite ends, a common springlocked hook 18 is pivotally secured. Instead of sewing the strap 16 to the cover 1'7, an alternative and perhaps preferable construction would embody forming a guide channel 19, open at both ends, either of the cover material itself or independently sewed thereon, and having the strap 16 extend slidably therethrough. In order to make the strap 16 adjustable in length to accommodate beds of different sizes or thicknesses, a
slidable take-up buckle 20 (shown on one strap only in Figure 2) may be provided on one end of each strap, spring-locked snap-hook 21 being secured to the buckle 20 adapted to cooperate with an eyelet 22 sewed on the cover 1'7.
In use, the straps 12 are first passed around manoeuvring of the child, so that the child will at no time become uncovered or exposed.
Obviously, modifications in form and structure may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a bed having a cover adapted to be spread thereover, straps encircling the bed frame, means for tightening said straps on the frame, rigid members on said straps slidably mounted and adapted to be disposed thereon on opposite sides of the bed, eyelets secured to said rigid members, additional straps adjustably attached to said cover, and snap-hooks on the ends of said additional straps adapted to engage said eyelets to secure the cover against displacement on the bed.
2. In a bed having a cover adapted to be spread thereover, straps encircling the bed frame, means for tightening said straps on the frame, rigid members slidably mounted on said straps and adapted to be disposed thereon on opposite sides of the bed, additional straps adjustably attached to said cover, and means partly on said rigid members and partly on said additional straps for releasably securing said additional straps to said rigid members to secure the cover against displacement on the bed.
3. In a bed having a cover adapted to be spread thereover, straps encircling the bed frame, means for tightening said straps on the frame, rigid members slidably mounted on said straps and adapted to be disposed thereon on opposite sides of the bed, additional straps attached to said cover, and means partly on said rigid members and partly on said additional straps for releasably securing said additional straps to said rigid members to secure the cover against displacement on the bed.
IRVING ENGEL.
