Application January 17, 1945, Serial No. 573,238
2 Claims. (01. 206-5) This invention relates to improvements in spectacle cases, and more particularly is directed to a spectacle case having novel means for securing the same to a suspending medium such as a belt or the like.
A further object 01 the invention is to provide a spectacle case having a closure flap of such construction as to normally tend to close the case and to prevent accidental displacement of the spectacles,
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a front elevational view of a spectacle case embodying my invention, in closed position,
Fig. 2 is a top plan viewof the spectacle case in open position, taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 3,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view thereof taken on line 33 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, the spectacle case of my invention is shown to comprise a blank I of suitable material, preferably of flexible leather-like material, said blank being cut to define a front wall I I and a rear wall I2 integral therewith and a medial flap I3 depending from said rear wall. The free end I4 of the front wall is provided with a medial recess I5 to facilitate use of the device and the insertion and removal of spectacles therein. A loop member I6 is fixed to the rear wall of the spectacle case, said loop member having oppositely tapered ends I1 and I8, one end I'I being fixed to the rear wall I2 in any desired or convenient manner, the other end I8 of. said loopmember being fixed to the flap I3 of the rear wall. The loop member I 6 intermediate its point of securement to the rear wall and flap thereof is pref erably of greater length than the distance between said points of securement so that the loop member I6 normally bows outwardly medially away from the flap I3 to define therewith a loop 24 for the reception of a belt B or other suspension means, whereby the spectacle case may be conveniently worn for ready access and with a minimum likelihood of its loss and whereby the flap I3 is normally urged to closed position.
The tapered end I8 of the loop member I6 and the flap I3 are preferably secured together by a latch member which may have complementary engagement with a latch member fixed to the front wall of the spectacle case so that, as shown in Fig. l, the loop and flap 'members may be latched to the front wall of the case to close the same.
In the forms shown in the drawings, the latch member comprises a glove fastener element I 9 adapted to engage the head 20 of stud 2I which secures the tapered end I! of the loop member I6 and the rear wall of the spectacle case together and passes through a spacing block 23 positioned in the spectacle case, adapted to serve as a support for spectacles and to normally maintain the walls of the case in spaced relation as shown in Fig. 4. Said stud 2I passes through the front wall I I of the spectacle case and is provided with a head 20 as above described,
By the arrangement set forth, the loop member I6 will normally tend to urge the flap I3 downwardly and over the front wall II 'of the spectacle case. To insert the spectacles it is necessary to manually raise the flap I3 to the position shown in Fig. 3. The case is closed by simply latching the complementary elements I9 and 20 together as shown in Fig. 4.
It will thus be seen that the spectacle case of my invention is of practical and attractive construction and lends itself admirably to economical manufacture.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a spectacle case having front and rear wall members, said rear wall member having integral therewith at its upper edge, a downwardly folding flap adapted to overlie the front wall, a loop member positioned to overlie said rear wall and flap and secured only at its respective ends to the rear wall member at a point adjacent the lower edge of the rear wall member and to the flap at a point adjacent the free end thereof, the loop member intermediate its points of securement to the rear wall and fiap being of greater length than the distance between said points of securement, so that said loop member normally bows outwardly medially away from the rear wall member to coact therewith, to provide a loop adapted to receive a suspending member.
2. In a spectacle case having front and rear wall members, said rear wall member having integral therewith at its upper edge, a downwardly folding flap adapted to overlie the front Wall, a loop member positioned to overlie said rear wall and flap and secured only at its respective ends to the rear wall member at a point adjacent the lower edge of the rear wall member and to the flap at a point adjacent the free end thereof, the loop member intermediate its points of securement to the rear wall and flap being of greater length than the distance between said points of securement, so that said loop member normally 'bows outwardly medially away from the rear wall REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in file of this patent:
