The invention relates to improvements in a striking bag support structure and assembly.
An object of the invention is the provision of a striking bag support structure and assembly which firmly supports the bag and eliminates wear on the bag strap.
Another object is to provide a structure which is simple, involves few parts, and is readilyand cheaply manufactured, and easily and quickly assembled.
A further object is the provision of a structure which is of short overall length and which results in fast action of the striking bag.
A still further object is to provide a structure which avoids any piercing or cutting of the loop strap of the bag and consequent weakening thereof.
Other objects will appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which are exemplary and in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of one form of striking bag supportin device or attachment, embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevation thereof, taken at right angles from Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the striking bag with the supporting device assembled therewith, ready for engagement with the hook or other device for operatively suspending the bag.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 represents the block member or body which has a curved outer surface 2 to be received within and to which the loop strap of the striking bag is engaged as seen in Fig, 3, the block member having a bore 3 extending therethrough and disposed to be substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, the block member being adapted to receive in its bore the supporting hook or device for suspending the striking bag for use. A suitable supporting device is indicated in Fig. 3 and may desirably comprise a hook A, suitably suspended, as by a ball and socket or other connection with a support (not shown).
Preferably the block I has upwardly convergent faces 4 and 5 containing the openings of the bore 3, and th upper wall formin the bore preferably is flared upwardly in opposite directions from a center point as shown at 6 and I. This structure facilitates the use and operation of the striking bag.
The block adjacent the base thereof is preferably provided with fastener openings 8 and 9,
' 2 which may desirably extend through the block from one side to the other as shown, but which may comprise four separate fastener openings, two in each face, if desired. The fastener openings desirably are substantially parallel to the bore 3.
Clamping means are provided to embrace the loop strap 10 of the striking bag and to b secured to the block member to hold it in place within the loop strap. 1 Y
The clamping means desirably comprises a pair of U-shaped clamping members ll aand IZ'haV- ing opening in theirends toreceive fasteners 13 and to be registered with the fastener open ings 8 and 9 in the block.
Th fasteners I3 desirably may be screws, the fastener openings 8 and 9 being suitably threaded for the purpose, although it will be apparent that other fastening means may be used. The block and clamping members may be made of metal or other suitable material.
The upper part of the bag is indicated at 14.
The base portion of the block I desirably may hav vertical sides for engagement by the clamping members.
Although but one embodiment of the invention is herein shown and described, it will be apparent that various changes may be made in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention and it is not intended to limit the invention other than by the terms of the appended claims.
The invention described herein may be manufactured and used by or for the Government of the United States of America for governmental purposes without the payment of any royalties thereon 'or therefor.
What is claimed is:
1. A striking bag support structure comprising a bag supporting block member having a curved surface to be received within and to engage the loop strap of the striking bag, said block member having a bore extending therethrough and disposed to be substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, said block member being adapted to receive in its bore the supporting hook or device for supporting the striking bag, and means to embrace the loop strap and to be secured to the block member to secure it in place within the loop strap.
2. A striking bag support structure comprising a bag supporting block member having a curved surface to be received within and to engage the loop strap of the striking bag, said block member having a bore extending therethrough and disposed to be substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, said block member being adapted to receive in its bore the supporting hook or device for supporting the striking bag, U-shaped clamping means to embrace the loop strap, and removable fasteners to secure the clamping means to the block member to secure it in place within the loop strap.

A striking bag support structure comprising a bag supporting block member having a curved surface to be received within and to engage the loop strap of the striking bag, said block member having a bore extending therethrough and. disposed to be substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, said block member being adapted to receive in its bore the supporting hook or device for supporting the striking bag, and a pair of U-shaped clamping members to embrace the loop strap adjacent the base thereof, and to be secured to the block member to secure it in place within the loop strap.
4; A striking bag support structure comprising a bag supporting block member having a curved surface to be received within and to engage the loop strap of the striking bag, said block member having a bore extending therethrough and dis- 1 posed to be substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, the upper wall forming said'bore being flared upwardly in opposite directions from a center point, the surfaces of said block containing said bore openings being convergent upwardly, said block member beingadapted to receive in its bore the supporting hook or device for supporting the striking bag, and means to embrace the loop strap and to be secured to the block member to secure it in place within the loop strap.
5. A striking bag support structure comprising a bag supporting block member having a curved surface to be received within and to engage the loop strap of the'striking bag, said block member having a bore extending therethrough and disposed to be substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, said block member being adapted to receive in its bore the supporting hook or device for supporting the striking bag, fastener openings formed in said block substantially parallel to the saidbore, U- shaped clamping means to embrace the loop strap, andfasteners to be received in said fastener openings to secure the clamping means to the block member to hold it in place within the loop strap.
6. A striking bag assembly comprising a bag supporting block member having a curved surface received within and engaging the loop strap of the striking bag, said block member having a bore extending therethrough and disposed substantially in alignment with the opening formed by the loop strap, said block member being adapted to receive in its bore the supporting device or hook for supporting the striking bag, and clamping means embracing the loop strap adjacent the base thereof and secured to said block member to hold it in place within the loop strap of the striking bag. 1
