Abstract
A tiedown for use on a pickup truck, the device comprising a pair of metal straps that are each bent into a triangular shape with one leg extended and having a slot therethrough, the straps being positioned together with the slotted legs placed one over the other so that a threaded shank of an eye bolt is fitted through the slots, the shank having a wedge screwed upon it which thus bears pressure on one side of each of the triangular shapes.

Britts PICKUP STAKE-POCKET TIE RllNG This invention relates generally to tiedowns for pickup trucks.
A principle object of the present invention is to provide a stake-pocket tie ring for pickup trucks and which is particularly adaptable for use as a tiedown in hauling tall appliances, furniture or the like.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a stake-pocket tie ring for pickup trucks for the purpose of hauling tall appliances, furniture and the like without the danger of damage from upset thereto.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a stake-pocket tie ring for pickup trucks wherein there are a pair of strap members between which a wedge on a threaded eye bolt applies pressure against the straps,
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a stake-pocket tie ring which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
H6. 1 is a perspective view of the components of the present invention shown separated, and
FIG. 2 is a side elevation view thereof shown assembled together.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a stakepocket tie ring for pickup trucks according to the present invention wherein there is an outer formed and slotted strap member 11, an inner formed and slotted strap member 12 and an eye bolt assembly 13.
Each of the strap members 11 and 12 are of like construc tion, one of which is positioned on a left side of the eye bolt assembly and the other of which is positioned on a right side thereof. Each strap member 11 and 12 is formed of a strap of metal material and which is bent to a configuration, as is illustrated in FIG. 1. Each strap member includes a flat tab 14 having an elongated slot 15 therethrough, the tab 14 being at right angle to an intermediate portion 16, the tab 14 and 16 being accordingly separated by a right angle bend 17, and the opposite end of the intermediate portion 16 having an acute bend 18 to form an inclined portion 19 adjacent a terminal tab 20 parallel to the tab 14 and spaced from the inclined portion 19 by a bend 21.
The eye bolt assembly 13 includes a threaded shank 22 having an eye bolt head 23 at one end thereof, the eye bolt head 23 having integral therewith a surface bearing washer 24. A concave rocking washer 25 is threadingly fitted on the shank 22, and a wedge 26 is threadingly secured upon the threaded shank, the wedge 26 being accordingly longitudinally moveable along the shank upon rotation of the threaded shank.
When the parts are assembled, as shown in FIG. 2, the threaded shank 22 is fitted through the slots 15 of the strap members 11 and 12, and the wedge 26 is fitted between the diagonally inclined portions 19 of each of the members.
It is to be noted that a transverse slot 27 is provided through the shank 22, for the purpose of receiving a cotter pin 28. The cotter pin is positioned adjacent one side of the concave rocking washer 25.
in operative use, as the eye bolt assembly is tightened, the slotted framework comprising the strap members 11 and 12 expand due to the pressure of the wedge 26 so to hold it securely against the sides thereof, thus forming a convenient tiedown for all pickup trucks, and for the purpose of hauling tall appliances such as furniture or the like, without the danger of damage from upset thereto.
What 1 now claim is:
1. A stake-pocket tie ring for pickup trucks or the like, the combination of a pair of strap members and an eye bolt assembly, one of said strap members comprising a left member and the other of said strap members comprising a right member, said strap members being of like configuration, means for fitting said strap members on said eye bolt assembly, and means by said eye bolt assembly for expanding against said strap members, each of said strap members being comprised from a metal strap configurated to include a pad at one end including a slot, an intermediate portion at right angle and adjacent to said pad, an opposite end of said intermediate portion being joined at an acute angle to an inclined planar portion extending in the direction of said pad, said inclined portion having at its opposite end a terminal tab extending substantially parallel to said pad in the direction of said intermediate portion, and said pad slot being engaged upon said eye bolt assembly with the pad being adjacent the head of the bolt, said eye bolt assembly including an elongated, straight threaded shank, an eye bolt head at one end of said shank, said head being integral with a surface bearing washer and an opposite end of said threaded shank threadingly receiving a threaded wedge having an external surface complementary with the inclined portion of each strap member, and an intermediate portion of said threaded shank receiving a concave rocking washer which is positioned thereon axially below said pads, said concave rocking washer being adjacent a transversely extending cotter pin extending through said shank axially below said washer.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said strap member slots are positioned adjacent each other and are clamped between said surface bearing washer and said concave rocking washer while said wedge is positioned between said inclined portions of said strap members.
