WRIST WATCH BAND AND PROTECTOR Filed April 12, 1 945- Patented Sept. 24, 1946 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WRIST WATCH BAND AND PROTECTOR Clayton J. Watkins, Forest City, N. 0. Application April 12, 1945, Serial No. 587,859
1 Claim.
This invention relates to wrist watches and more particularly a wrist watch band and protector.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a wrist watch protector adapted to form a closure for a wrist watch mounted on a band so as to prevent breakage of the crystal or damage to the watch through accidental contact with other objects while being Worn.
A further object of this invention resides in the provision of a wrist watch band adapted to support a wrist watch thereon so the same can be readily covered for protection against damage.
A further object of this invention resides in the particular construction of the 'wrist watch band and wrist watch retaining means.
A still further object of this invention resides in the combination of the wrist watch supporting band and protecting hood carried thereby.
Aside from the aforesaid objects this invention resides in the particular construction of the Wrist watch protecting hood.
In addition to the foregoing objects this invention resides in the particular manner of connecting the hood to the band.
- With these and other objects in View this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangements to be hereinafter set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim and, while this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention the right is reserved to resort to such changes in construction and arrangement of elements as come within the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application;
Fig. l is a perspective view of a wrist watch constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view thereof taken approximately on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 i an enlarged plan view of a portion of the wrist encircling strap with the hood removed therefrom.
In the present illustration of this invention the numeral 5 designates, in general, a wrist watch band and protector consisting of a suitably con- 'structed strap 6 provided with an adjustable element I herein shown in the form of a conven tional buckle.
Secured to the strap in spaced relation are suitable fastening elements 9 adapted to engage the usual strap securing loops of a wrist Watch herein designated by the letter W in order that the watch will remain in overlying relation to the strap and where it can be readily observed by the wearer when lifting a hood Hl having ears H2 at its opposite ends which are fastened to the strap 6 by fastening elements II and II, the latter preferably forming a permanent connection to the strap 6 While the former is preferably of the snap-button type or other suitable element whereby one end of the hood can be detached from the strap.
The aforesaid hood is constructed of leather or other suitable material capable of protecting the watch W against damage and has its interior of such configuration that will readily conform to the contour of the watch, it being apparent that the watch accommodating area of the hood will be of different designs to fit watches of various types.
In order to provide comfort to the wearer of a watch band of the present construction, the strap 6 is provided with a plurality of ventilating apertures 8.
With this invention fully described it is manifest that means are provided whereby wrist watches can be worn by individuals in mechanical fields and other places with safety against damage by hitting the same against other objects and at the same time can readily be inspected with little or no trouble.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A wrist watch strap comprising an adjustment element, hooks spacedly disposed on the strap to receive the loop ends of a wrist watch, a hood covering the watch and having hook receiving pockets in its inner surface at opposite ends thereof and the major portion of its interior area conforming to the configuration of the watch, means hingedly securing one end of the hood to the strap, means removably securing the opposite end of the hood to the strap, and that area of said strap beneath the watch being spaced from the back of the same and having ventilating apertures therein.
CLAYTON J. WATKINS.
