Description

Aug, 12; 1930. s. w. CR-ITCHLEY BUCKLE Filed Oct. 26, 1928 awwmtoz Jamaal/V (flit/110g the belt.
Fatentecl Aug. 12, 1930 PATENT OFFICE SAMUEL W. CRITCHLEY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND BUCKLE Application filed October 26, 1928. Serial No. 315,118.
The present invention relates to improvements in buckles for uniting the loose ends of a belt or strap and to a novel buckle and belt.
The invention represents an improvement in buckles such as shown in my prior Patent No. 1,610,848, patented December 14c, 1926.
Objects.-Among the principal objects which the invention has in view are :-To provide a novel means for detachably applying the buckle in service; to improve the character of the belt securing elements of the buckle; to construct the buckle for disposition on either end of the belt interchangeably; and generally to improve, simplify and perfect the construction. 7
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
Drawings.Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the buckle and belt;
Figures 2, 3 and 4 are perspective views illustrating modes of attaching the buckle to the belt in service.
Descripton.-The form of the invention shown in the drawings possesses ma ked ad vantages over buckles now on the market. Here, the buckle is so constructed that it can be Worn either on the right side or on the left side of the belt and still have the design right side up, which to my knowledge cannot be done by any other belt buckle. The buckle, 20, is of sheet metal and both ends thereof have the same identical hooks, 21, each preferably away from the body of the buckle so as to slide and slip easily in the perforations, 22, which are arranged on each end of the belt in spaced relation. Thus, the buckle may be attached to either end, Figure 2 or Figure 4, and the design maintained upright. In case the buckle is put on the belt with the buckle upside down, Figure 3, the wearer need only to remove it and turn it around without disturbing the position of In this form, the corresponding portions, 23 and 24, of fasteners are placed on the end of the belt and on the buckle respectively and these are snapped together whether the buckle is in the right or left end of the belt and provide an additional means of attachment, thus insuring greater securement of the buckle in service. While preferably using fasteners, I may likewise use other attaching means instead.
While the specific arrangement illustrated and described represents the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be understood that I reserve the right to make variations and alterations in the details of construction and I desire to be limited only by the state of the prior art and the scope of the appended claim.
I claim In combination with a belt, a belt buckle therefor, a plurality of spaced eyelets extending through the opposite ends of said belt, fastening tongues formed on the opposite sides of said buckle, adapted to be selectively positioned through said eyelets, and a snap fastener carried by said belt and buckle, one element of which is attached to the belt and the other element to the said buckle.
SAMUEL WV. CRITCHLEY.
