Description

(No Model.) I
H. M. RYDER. Urn for Stoves.
No. 240,273. Patented April 19,1883
- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY M. RYDER, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO TAUNTON IRON WORKS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
URN FOR STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,273, dated. April 19, 1881.
Application filed February 28, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,, HENRY M. RYDER, of Taunt o g, in the county of Bristol and State of Massifliusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Urns for Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 is aview of the top part of a stove, partly in section, showing my improved urn. Fig. 2 is the same, showing the cover thrown back. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views of my improved urn.
In certain classes of stoves the cover of the stove (marked A in the drawings) is hinged, so that it can be turned up, as shown in Fig. 2, and an urn for such stoves has long been sought, buthitherto such urns have been either supported upon centers, so that they would stand vertical whether the cover was down or up, or else have been adapted to be moved out of the way before turning up the cover.
In my invention the urn is attached to and moves with the cover, but it is so shaped that it will hold the water in it as well when in the usual position shown in Fig. 1 as when the cover is turned up, as shown in Fig. 2. In both these figures B represents the urn and the dotted line 0 indicates the level of the water in the urn.
The flange b around the mouth of the urn is desirable, although not essential. It serves to prevent the water splashing out in case the cover A should be thrown back too rapidly.
The casting G is the usual ornamental part, and has nothing to do with my invention.
Those parts of the drawings not lettered are old, and will be understood by all skilled in the art without description.
What I claim as my invention is-- Theimproved urn for stovesabove described, adapted for use with the hinged cover A and shaped to hold the water whether the cover A be down or turned up, as specified.
HENRY M. RYDER.
