Description

(N0Model.)
' H. M. RYDER.
URN FOR STOVES. No. 249,551. Patented Nov. 15,1881.
WWW. 2g. 0.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC I HENRY M. RYDER, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR' OF ONE-HAL TO JOHN F. MONTGOMERY, OF SAME PLACE.
URN FOR STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 249,551, dated November 15, 1881, Application filed October 6, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. RYDER, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and use ful Improvement in Urns for Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in urns for stoves that have the cover hinged so that it can be turned up; and the object of my invention is to combine the urn with the cover, by means of an axis and a counter-weight, in
such a Way as to dispense with the two standards between which urns have been-heretofore hung.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of the upper part of a stove'with myimproved urn attached. Fig. 2 is the same with the cover turned up. Fig. 3 is a section through Fig. l.
The cover A is hinged to the stove in the usual way, and is provided with holes a, adapted to receive the pin 1) in the bottom of the urn B. A plate, 12 is attached to one side of the urn B, and conforms in shape to the cover A, and nicely covers a slot, to, therein, through which the counter-weight 0, attached to the bottom of the urn B, passes when the cover is turned up, as shown in Fig. 2. When the cover is down, as shown in Fig. the plate I) snugly fits the opening in the cover, and counterweightO being out of sight, there is a neat and finished appearance to the whole.
I am aware that an urn has been hung between t'wo' standards projecting up from a hinged cover and made high enough to allow the bottom of the urn to swing clear of the cover, the axis being n'earthe top of the urn,
as shown in Patent No. 112,160, dated February 28, 1871.
In my invention the standards are dispensed with, the axis of the urn is below its bottom, and the counter-weight which keeps it in a vertical position is out of sight when the cover is down.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of urn B and cover A by means of the holes a in the cover, the pin b in the urn, and the counter-weight 0 depending from the bottom of the urn-and within the cover,
substantially as described.
