This maintenance of the end of the funnel exactly in the line of the axis of the box has hitherto not been an easy matter, since shaking of the machine may tend to move the funnel end away from the centre, and further, the replacing of the funnel and funnel bracket after the periodic removal of the same, which is necessaryrwhen emptying the cake out of the box, may easily lead to the funnel being put into a position more or less out of the centre.
o I have now found that I can obtain good results when collecting a thread in acentrifugal box if the funnel be suspended loosely by a support situated approximately inthe same horizontalplane as the centre of gravity of the funnel. I.flnd that if the funnel'be suspended inthis manner, and if for any reason the lower end of the funnel be moved away from the'centrel line in which lies the axis of rotation of the box, the pull of the thread, as it passes. down the funnel into the box tends to bring the end of the funnel into the centre again. The particular method of suspending the funnel may vary considerably, provided the above mentioned condition is observed For instance,'the top of the funnel may be provided with a. heavy ring of metal, so that the centre of gravity of thewhole lies in a horizontal plane passing through a part of the cone of the funnel, and the funnel is then passed through a ring supported by the funnel bracket until that part of the funnel in which the centre of gravity lies rests on the said ring. Referring to Figure 1, .the spinning funnel I through which the thread passes continuously into the spinning box 4, has a cone-shaped part" I 2 and constrictions 3 in the stem of the funnel.
The lower end of the funnel I terminates inside the box A which is provided with a lid 5. Inside the box 4 the cake of thread 6 builds up against the inner wall. The cone-shaped part 2 of funnel I rests with approximate line contact on the metal ring I in-the-top of the bush 8. The bush 8 screws into the support 9 which is reciprocated. The top of the cone-shaped part 2 of funnel I is provided with a heavy metal annular member Ill of such a weight that the centre of gravity of the funneli liesapproximately in the same horizontal plane as the metal ring I. The member III is fastened to the top of the'funnel in any convenient way, for example, with sulphur.
Figure 2 shows a modification of the method of suspending the funnel according to the present invention. The cone-shaped part 2 of the funnel I is provided with a metallic collar II which terminates in a hemisphere I2. The top of 4 the bush I 4 is cut away to receive the hemisphere I2. The weight of the metallic collar II and the hemisphere I2 is such that the centre of gravity of the funnel I lies approximately in the same horizontal plane as the top of the bush It.

Apparatus for the collection of thread in a centrifugal spinning box comprising a support and a funnel loosely suspended in the support, in combination with'a collar on the funnel above the point of support which collar is of sumcient mass to locate the center of gravity ofthe funnel substantially in the horizontal plane of its suspension whereby the lower end of the funnel tends to stay axially central of the spinning box.
2.- Apparatus for the collection of thread in a centrifugal spinning box comprising. a support and a vertically reciprocating tunnel loosely suslower endot the funnel from dr ams n the p and a vertically reciprocatin funnel loosely suspended in the support on an approximate line contact, in combination with a metal collar on the upper end of the tunnel above the point of support which collar is of suflicient mass to locate the center of gravity of the funnel substantially in the same horizontal plane as its suspension whereby the lower end of the funnel does not draz on the yarn and the lower end of the tunnel tends to stay axially central of the spinning box.
