A. WAGNER SPINNING MACHINE FOR SPINNING ARTIFICIAL SILK Filed March 16, 1927 WMf f the walls of the can Patented Jay 24, 1928.
UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT WAGNER, 0F GROSS-ZSCHACHWITZ, NEAR DR'ESDEN, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM FR. KIITTNER, 0F PIRNA, SAXONY.
SPINNING MACHINE FOR SPINNING :ARTIFICIAL SILK.
Application filed March 16, 1927, Serial No. 175,871, andin Germany May 4, 1926'.
As compared with the known device in machines for spinning artificial silk by the stretch spinning method, in which the filament passing successively through several baths is stretched progressively, the present invention is characterized by the provision of a concentric perforated drum in the can, inside which drum the spun thread is wound (instead of the spun thread lying against the wall of the can itself) Without itself having'to be perforated the perforated drum according to the invention provides a large cross-sectional area for the escape of the liquid'thrown by centrifugal force bythe spun thread.
the space between trifugal force first enters leaves the annular the drum and the can and space through vents the liquid being sprayed about and the liquid. Obviously the liquid will be atomized to a greater extent, if it leaves at many points in many fine jets or drops and impinges on the inside of the casing surrounding the can, than is the case, when only a few larger jets leave at a few points only and impinge on the inside of the Wall of the casing. It isof great importance from the point ofvicw of health for the atomization of the thrown out liquid to be reduced as far 7 as possible, since the liquid thrown out is charged with acid or particles of metal salts.
A further improvement, which is also important from the health point of view, is that the'easing of the can is provided with soft internal lining which counteracts the scattering about or atomization ofthe liquid 1 by reducing the force of impact of the :jets
lining may for instance be made of soft rubber, preferably in the form of spongy rubber or moss rubber, or of felt. Another suitable and cheap material is wood pulp in the wellknown" form of soft board. Textile fabrics or other sufficiently soft materials are also suitable for this purpose. The action of the lining is not in any way 'dctrimentally affected by its becoming saturated with the liquid thrown; out by cenor drops. Such a directly The. fact that the liquid thrown off by cena few outlet openings, pre-.
by the atomized a In the accompanying drawing a constructional example of the present invention is shown.
Below the drawing or stretching disc of a machine for spinning artificial silk by the stretch-spinning method is a trough 23 which is continuously fed with liquid (for instance acidified water) and from which the liquid is led away by flexible tubes 24 to the thread guiding funnels 25 which are raised and low ered in the wellknown manner. The funnels which are made of glass or Zellhorn are surrounded by funnel shaped protective casings 26. The liquid supplied through the 'fle'xible tube 24 enters the funnels 25 at 27, thus entering the neck of the funnel together with the filaments s, and passes from the funnel into the can 28.
How liquid may be conveyed directly to .the cans without passing through the funnels 25 need not be shown in the drawing. 1
The cans 28, the walls of which need only beprovided at. the bottom at 29 with outlet openings for the liquid thrown out by centrifugal force, are provided with sieve-like perforated inserted drums 30 which are kept centered in any suitable manner (for 1n-- stance by radially interposed members) The filaments s lay themselves against the inner surface of the inserted drums, While the liquid which adheres to the filaments or is supplied in accordance with the invention is thrown out by centrifugal force. through the perforations and at the outlets 29.
The casings 31 surrounding the cans are lined in accordance with the invention with a liner 32. At 33 the liquid caught by the casing flows out into the collecting gutter 34.
lVhat I claim is: I
1. A spinning machine for the production of artificial silk by the stretch spinning method comprising the combination with a can and a casing surroundingsaid can, a
perforated drum positioned centrally in the said can for receiving and enclosing the s un filaments, as and for the purpose set fort I 2. A spinning machine for the production of artificial silk by the stretch spinning 5 method comprising in combination a can, a
casing surrounding said. can, a perforated drum positionedcentrall'y 1n the said can ments, and a. lining in the said casin made of a soft elastic materiakas-set fort L 10 In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
