As compared with the known device in machines for spinning artificial silk by the stretch spinning method, in which the filament passing successively through several baths is stretched progressively, the present invention is characterized by the provision of a concentric perforated drum in the can, inside which drum the spun thread is wound (instead of the spun thread lying against the wall of the can itself) Without itself having'to be perforated the perforated drum according to the invention provides a large cross-sectional area for the escape of the liquid'thrown by centrifugal force bythe spun thread.

Below the drawing or stretching disc of a machine for spinning artificial silk by the stretch-spinning method is a trough 23 which is continuously fed with liquid (for instance acidified water) and from which the liquid is led away by flexible tubes 24 to the thread guiding funnels 25 which are raised and low ered in the wellknown manner. The funnels which are made of glass or Zellhorn are surrounded by funnel shaped protective casings 26. The casings 31 surrounding the cans are lined in accordance with the invention with a liner 32. At 33 the liquid caught by the casing flows out into the collecting gutter 34.
