INVBNTQR @FQ/@M .PETES. FHOTQIJTHOGRAFMR, WASHINGTON. D l2A PATENT OEEICE.
BENJAMIN LANDON, OF CANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN- FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,925, dated March 15, 1881. Application filed January *18, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN LANDON, of Canton, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Shade Fixtures, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
Figure l is a front elevation of Inyimprove-` ment.` Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken through the line :v m, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of the window-shade fixtures for which Letters Patent No. 132,726 were granted to lne November 5, 1872, in such a manner as to simplify the construction and promote convenience in operating them.
A represents a window-casing.
B is the shade, each end of which is attached to and wound around a roller, O.
To each end of each roller G is attached, or upon it is formed, a pulley, D. The ends of the rollers O may have knobs E or other ornaments attached to them.
F are two cords, the lower ends of which are secured to the lower parts of the casing A. The cords F, at their middleparts, pass through guides G, attached to the casing A, and make a turn around the pulleys D above and below the guides G, as shown in Figsl and 2. The
upper ends ofthe cords F are attached to the lower ends of the spiral springs H, the upper ends of which are attached to the upper parts of the casing A. The springs H allow the cords F to be drawn so taut as to hold the rollers O securely in any position into which they may be adjusted, and the elasticity of the said springs allows the rollers O to be easily rolled up and down upon the cords F to adjust the shade B to cover any desired part of the window.
To one end of each of the rollers O is attached a pivot, I, which passes through an eye in the upper end of a rod, J. The rods Jhang down along the casing A, so that the rollers C can be readily rolled up and down upon the cords'F by pushing the rods J upward and drawing them downward.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In window-shade fixtures, the combination, with the suspending-cords and the shade-rollers C, ofthe pivots I and the handle-rods J, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the said rollers can be readily rolled up and down upon the suspending-cords, as set forth.
BENJAMIN LANDON.
