(ModeL) 0.- W. GARRETT. Harness Buckle.
No.. 238,884 Patented March 15,1881;
WITNESSES ATTORNEYS N-PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASNINQTON D, C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. GARRETT, OF MOULTON, TEXAS.
HARNESS-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,884, dated March 15, 1881. Application filed J annary 15, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. GARRETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monlton, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented certain new and use-- ful Improvements in Harness-Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
. clear,'and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference drawings, A designates the frame of the buckle,
having straight ends B and slightly-curved sides 0. To the sides 0 O and about midway of their length is secured a bar,D, upon which the frame rests, having downwardly-projecting ends I), bent at I). These arms I) are adapted to fold and form a loop beneath the sides 0 O. The bar D is reduced at its middle at d, and the eye 6 of the tongue E encircles this reduced portion, as shown in Fig. 1. At each side of the reduced portion 01 a pin,F, projects downwardly from the bar D.
In applying the buckle the pins F F are passed through perforations a a in the end g of the stationary strap G, and the downwardlyprojecting ends I) of the bar D are turned inwardly and up against the strap G, and rest against the ends of the pins F, the ends f f of the projections b b meeting but not overlapping.
The free end of the strap G is connected to the buckle, when necessary, in the ordinary manner.
By this construction the strap G is connected to the buckle at end 9 without the employment of stitches, and a durable fastening and one readily made is provided.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a buckle, the frame A, having the central cross-bar, D, upon which the frame rests, provided with downWardly-projecting arms b 1), adapted to-fold and form a loop beneath the side bars, 0 O, and the downwardly-projecting pins F F, on opposite sides of the tongue E, all attached to the bar D, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES WILLIAM GARRETT.
