SLIDE LOOP Filed Nov. 18, 1945 Patented Nov. 6,1945 I i UNITED STATES OFFICE SLI DE LojoP I H 'George Henry Elwell, New Haven, Gonng assignmto Eastern Tool and Manufacturing company, Bloomfield, N. J a corporation v1 .i I 1 Application November 18, 1943, Scrial.1lo, 510,fl52 1 2 Claims. (Cl. 24-130.)
This invention relates to slide loops, the phys- With reference tothe accompanying draw i lcal combination of a slide adapted to :be secured the Figure 1 illustrates a rear view of the device to a strap for longitudinal adjustment thereon, in which the intermediate bar structure is posiand :a button loop adapted to be clipped over a tioned relative ,tothe body member in a transbutton carried by the garment to be therebysupverse plane thereto; Eigure 2 is an enlarged secported. The invention, however, particularly retionalviewoi the device .on the line 2-f-2 of the lates .to an improvement of the slide portion of Figure 1 the dotted outline of a-strap being thedevice. In providing a slide portion'of a slide shown looped loosely around the companion loop for adjustable securement upon a single loopsldurili gflthe process o fg'securing the device strap, the vmore limited strap passage above and upon astrap; Figure 3 illustrates a face viewoi below an intermediate bandividing a ,rectanguthe device in which the companion loops are lar open area of the slide into a pair of loops in shown positioned substantially in the plane 'of a common plane, the better the grip of the dethe body member; ,Eigure i is an enlarged sec- Vice upon the strap threaded therein, :but the tional view of} the device .on the line 4-4 of more difiicult the threading. Th invention Figure 3, the dotted outline ,of -a strap ,being herein disclosedteliminates such .difliculty by emshownlooped snuglyaround .thecompanion loops ploying an intermediate bar which in cross-secand wedged against teeth [of the. sheet-stool; tion substantially has different intersecting diloop, the ,companionloopsfbeing lockedinsaid ameters so that, when positioned in the plane r. position; Iandthe Figure 5,illus trates aside view ofthe pair of loops, the strap passage open area ofithedevice.
is thereby reduced above and below the :bar in Attention being ticalled more particularly to contrast with the open area when the bar is-rethelaccompanying .drawing, the numeral I desvolved to a transverse position therein. By furignates the sheet-stock body part of ,the device ther employing an intermediate bar structure'of having the strap loop 2 throughits upper porcompanion loops providing spaced and relatively tion and the button 3 in the lower portion. The aligned sections permitting marginal insertion teeth 4 are provided by the sheet-stock at the of a strap into threaded position therein, an adupper boundary of, and. projecting into, the strap ditional contribution is made to the ease with loop 2, and the marginal edge 5 of the sheetwhich the improved slide loop may be secured stock body I is rounded rearwardly to reinforce upon a single strap. the body I and to improve its facial appearance. The applicant is aware that the previous art The rounded edge at the top of the body I is disc-loses fixed wire companion loops longitudicupped over rearwardly sufliciently to provide nally spaced, one from the other, and together a catch ID for a purpose to be explained. The comprising aligned sections of an intermediate bearings B and l are formed in the sheet-stock bar structure in a vertical plane and integrally bod at the sides 8 and 9 of the strap loop 2.
extending from both sides of a rectangular wire A wi mber comprising a, one-pieceforma- Strap 1001) also in said plane. The app t is thin having the upper bar 20, side bars 2| and 22, also aware that the previous art discloses a movand companion loops 23 and 24 substantially able intermediate bar provided with humps and parallel with, and in the plane of, the upper bar extending across a sheet body member having 20, each extending from a side bar 2| or 22, p ns i h which the u ps a ded spectively, relatively spaced and longitudinally to re i ter, the r bein m vabl rn tively aligned Within the space 25 therebetween, the 130 Position Said h p intersecting e plane of terminals 26 and 21 of the wire extending outhe y m m r a Wi n perforations wardly in opposite directions and inserted within to provide a strap-binding element, but in 1a the bearings 6 and 1, respectively, for a revolvparallel plane to that of the body member'to ing movement therein.
release the strap. While the invention discloses T mount and secure the device upon a strap herei re at vely a ned intermediate bar seo- S, the revolvable wire member is best positioned tions of longitudinally spaced companion loops, as illustrated by the Figure 2, thereby placing the the intermediate bar structure employed procompanion loops 23 and 24 in a plane substanduces a new result in t n t e bar is positially at right angles to that of the sheet-stock tioned in the plane of the body member the inbody member, such positioning of the companion serted strap is thereby secured and when the bar loops 23 and 24 making available a greater unis positioned transversely to the plane or the obstructed open area of the strap loop 2 within body member, the strap is released. which to enter the strap 8, With the strap 8 caught under the catch ID, the companion loops 23 and 24 are thereby locked within said plane whefiein they are to occupy such a substantial portion of the area of the strap loop 2, especially adjacent the line of teeth 4,- that the portion S of the strap S covering the companion loops'23 and 24 is brought directly into contact with the teeth 4 and thereby positively held against sliding movement of the deviceupon the strap; The teeth 4 may be; omitted if desired, they being included only as an added means of securement; the more or less abrupt ofi-set of the strap S threaded withinthe device being sufficient to another the device. The bar 20, held within the catch ID, is necessary especially to maintain the strapbinding position of the companion loops 23 and124 within the plane of the sheet-stock body member l when the strap portion above the device "is not taut, such as when being laundered, but in use the taut strap is sufiicient to maintain the bar'20 in vertical position.
fIo,readjust the slide loop to a different position upon the strap S, the upper bar 20 is released from its vertical position to position the companion loops 23 and 24 sufliciently out of the plane'of the body part I thus permitting the strap Sta sliding freedom through the device.
, While theinventionisillustrated as employing in place of the usual intermediate bar companion the device and in cross-section having different intersection diameters as herein above explained, may be used to a great advantage with the exception that the threading of a strap into the device thus formed must be done in a manner common to the art when the intermediate bar is positioned in a plane transverse to that of the body member I. -I claim: '1. A slide loop comprising a sheet-stock body member having an upper bar, side bars and a 1 lower bar within which there is confined a rectangular opening through said member; bearings provided by the body member at said side bars upon opposite sides of said opening; a onepiece movable wire member of which the wire terminals are revolvably carried within said bearings, the wire member having an upper bar and side bars, the latter, together with said terminals, carrying spacedly aligned looped wire portions providing flat intermediate bar sections each projecting toward one another across said opening and lying in one revolved position with the wire of said loops adjacent upper and lower bars of said'opening and,'in another revolved position presenting said looped sections in a'transverse relation to said opening, said positions decreasing and increasing within said opening the passage therethrough above and below said intermediate bar sections.
r 2. A'slide loop comprising a sheet-stock body member having an upper bar, side bars and a lower bar defining a rectangular opening through wire loops 23 and 24 relatively aligned and spaced to admit marginally therebetween a strap thus placed around the wire loops, yet an unbroken intermediate bar extending entirely across the rectangular open area within the body portion of said body member; bearings provided by the body member at opposite side of said opening; an intermedi-ate bar member formed in a flat plane and extending substantially across said opening, said bar member having terminals by which it is revolvably carried within said bearings to-position said intermediate bar substantially within said opening 0mm plane transverse thereto, said positions decreasing or increasing within said opening the passage therethrough both above and below said intermediate bar.
