The invention accordingly consists. in the fea tures of construction, combinations. of elements, and arrangement ofpartswhich will be exemplified in-the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring now in-detail to the drawing, Hi designates a shirt having overlapping edges H and I2 buttoned to each other in the usual manner. In the drawing, l3 represents an ordinary fourin-hand tie. Our improved device l5, for removably attaching the tie to the edge of the shirt, comprises a U-shaped plate I6 having folded over substantially parallel portions I! and I8 interconnected by the curved portion I 9 at one end.

A clasp or friction clamp 35 provided with outwardly extending, aligned pintles 36 is mounted on and between the ears 3| by passing said pintles through the apertures 32 of the ears. The mem- 5 ber 35 is formed with a handle portion 31 extending exteriorly of the member l6 and a portion 38 disposed at an angle to the handle 31 and projecting inwardly toward the portion l1 and below the portion 21. 0

The edge ll of the shirt and the short end I311 of the tie are received between the portions I! Said portions ll, [8 are sufiiciently spaced to readily receive the shirt edge and the end I301. of the tie. By pressing 35 the handledownwardly, the portion 38 of the clasp 35 presses the shirt portion II and tie portion l3a against the portion I1, the edge 28 of the portion '2'! serving as a stop to retain the portion 38 in a position disposed at right angles 40 to the plane of the portions l1 and I8, whereby the shirt edge ,H is maintained frictionally clamped.

It will now be understood that the device l5 may be removed from the tie to permit the latter 45 to be pressed, laundered or cleaned. Nevertheless, said device may be readily attached to the inner folds of the tie, being in such position completely hidden from view. By a simple manipulation of the clasp 35, to wit, by merely pressing 50 down onthe handle 31, the member I5 is firmly clamped to the shirt edge I I to prevent the member l5 from accidentally slipping off the shirt edge.

In Figs. 6 and 7 there is shown a device Ilia 55 2 embodying the invention and illustrating a modified construction. The device I50: comprises a U-shaped member having portions i1 and IS interconnected by a curved portion IQ for receiving the edge ll of a shirt and the short end [3a of a tie. The portion I8 is formed with a cut-out 30. At the ends of said cut-out the metal is pressed or pouched outwardly as at 39, and said portions 39 may be formed with inwardly extending pintles 40. Mounted on said pintles 4D and extending through the cut-out 30 is a clasp 3511. provided with ears 35b having openings 4| receiving said pintles 40. In other respects the clasp 35a is similar to the clasp 35 and operates in the same manner to clamp the shirt front and the tie end to the portion I1.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing, is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described the invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In combination with a U-shaped member adapted to receive an edge of a shirt, means for attaching said member to the inner folds of a tie worn with the shirt, said member having a cut out portion, the inner edges of said out out portion being formed with a pair of ears, and a clasp on said member having pintles received within said ears and extending through said cut out and adapted to frictionally clamp the shirt to said member.

2. A device for attaching a tie to an edge of a shirt, comprising a member having folded over portions interconnected at one end and adapted to receive an edge of the shirt therebetween, and a pin on the outer side of one of said portions for attachment to the inner folds of the tie, the other portion beingformed with a cut out, and a triotion clamp pivoted to said other portion and extending through said out out for clamping the edge of the shirt to said first portion.

3. In combination, a metal member having folded over portions interconnected at one end, means on one of said portions for attaching said member to a tie, said portion being slit longitudinally and the metal above said slit being pressed inwardly toward the other portion, the other portion being formed with a cutout, said member being adapted to receive the edge of a shirt between the folded over portions thereof, a clasp received within said out out and being pivoted to said other portion, said clasp having a handle portion extending exteriorly of said member, and a portion at an angle to the handle extending inwardly toward the first portion and adapted to press said edge of the shirt against said first portion, the inwardly pressed metal of the first portion serving as a stop to limit pivotal movement of said clasp.

4. A device for attaching a tie to an edge of a shirt, comprising a U-shaped member adapted to receive an edge of the shirt, means for attaching said member. to the inner folds of a tie, one arm of said U-shaped member being formed with a cut-out and the opposite edge portions of said cut-out being pressed outwardly and formed with inwardly extending pintles, and a clasp extending through said cut-out and having apertured openings receiving said pintles for clamping the shirt edge to said U-shaped member.
