Bottle Holder.
No, 238,697. Patented March 8,1883.
WITI\TESSES ATTORNEY NFETERS FHOTO-LITMOGRAFNER, WASHINGTON. D c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORITZ KORFF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 238,697, dated March 8, 1881.
Application filed December 22, 1880. (N 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORITZ KORFF, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish, for the purpose of serving champagnes and other wines, an improved bottle-holder, by which the contents of the bottle are kept cool for a considerable length of time after the bottles are taken from the refrigerator without neees sitating the use of small bottle-pails filled with ice. The device has, furthermore, the advantage that the wine can be poured into the glasses without the least inconvenience, and that the holder itself forms an ornamental receptacle for the bottle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved bottle-holder, shown in the act of using it, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on line a a', Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a sheet-metal jacket or holder, which is made to correspond to the size and shape of the bottle with which itis to be used. The jacket or holder A is closed at the bottom, but open at the neck, the neck part being of less length than the neck of the bottle, so as not to inclose the upper part of the bottle-neck and leave the mouth of the bottle open for pouring out the contents. The jacket A is lined at the inside andat the bottom with a layer of felt or other suitable non-conductor of heat, B, of suitable thickness. The jacket is composed of two longitudinally divided semi-sections, which are hinged to each other at one side, and provided at the opposite side with a split handle and with overlappingedges,
I and raised catches or other locking device to secure the tight closing of the holder around the bottle. The catches may be formed by indents upon one and projections upon the other of the overlapping edges, which spring together when closed, as shown at a, Fig. 2.
The holder when applied to the bottle keeps the same cool for a considerable length of time, and dispenses thereby with the use of broken ice and a special pail for this purpose.
The bottle-holder may be finished in any ornamental design, so that it forms, besides its usefulness, an ornament for the table.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A bottle-holder composed of longitudinal sections provided with matching handles, each section littinga continuous portion of the neck,
the body, and the bottom of the bottle, the
sections meeting throughout the neck, sides, and bottom, and provided with a non-conducting lining and with means for detachably securing them to the bottle, substantially as described.
2. A bottle-holder composed of twolongitudinal sections, which constitute a closed casing for the bottle, which are lined at the inside with felt or other non-conducting material, are hinged together at one side, and are provided at the opposite side with matching handles,
substantially as described.
3. A bottle-holder composed of two longitudinal sections, which are lined at the inside with felt or other non-conductor of heat, are hinged togetherat one side, and are provided at the opposite side with matching handles and with a suitable locking device, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 21st day of December, 1880.
