To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, CLARA A. PENNISTON, a

citizen of the United States, residing in the.

city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Food-Warmers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements on the combined hot water bottle and food warmer for which I filed an application in the United States Patent Office on the 25th day of October, 1892, serially numbered 449,967, and the invention consists more particularly in a hot water bag having a compartment-for the reception of food,and means within said compartment for holding one or more bottles of food; also in a cover to close said compartment even when it contains several bottles as will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings which form a part of my specification:- Figure I is a partly broken side elevation of my improved food warmer, and Fig. II is a central cross section of the same.

In the accompanying drawings the letter A indicates a suitable bag or the like preferably made of rubber and adapted to contain hot or warm water, as shown. The bag A, has a suitable filling nozzle a, adapted to receive a suitable threaded stopper b, as shown. The bag A is preferably providedwith a handle 13, at its upper part by which it can be suspended and transported.

On the outer side of the bag A, is a pocket or compartmentD which may be formed by a piece of fabric or rubber, secured to the bag A, along its sides and bottom and disconnected from the bag along its upper edge, as shown. By this means one side of bag A forms one wall of the pocket or compartment -D (see Fig. II).

E is a flap or cover for the pocket or compartment D and it is shown secured to the bag A above said pocket or compartment and overlaps the latter to close the upper open end of the same. Buttons or other fastenings 61 may be provided for holding the flap E closed over the compartment D.

To the side of the bag A within the pocket or compartment D is secured a strip of suitable material F, preferably rubber, that is fastened to the bag at suitable intervals to form loops or recesses e of the desired number within which bottles G may be placed and securely held, as shown. The loops or recesses eextend vertically or have their open ends arranged toward the top of the bag A, sothat the bottles G can be readily inserted, and held within the pocket or compartment D. By this means, when the device is suspended from the handle B, the bottles will be carried with their necks extending upwardly to avoid danger of spilling their contents. It will be observed that the bottles'G are held against one wall of the bag A so that they receive the full benefit of the heated water and as the bag is soft or pliable, there is no danger of the bottles becoming broken by contact with it. By placing the bottles G in compartment D and having the latter covered the radiation of heat from the bottles is retarded whereby they will remain warm longer than if they were exposed to contact with the air. One additional feature is that articles of food such as sandwiches, 650., can be placed in the compartment D and kept warm and soft for a long time as they are thus practically excluded from the air. It will be observed that one side of the bag A is left unobstructed, whereby that portion can be used to warm parts of the body, the feet, &c., whereby a double use for the device is atforded.

Another advantage of my improved device is that salted ice water can be placed in the bag and thus keep milk cool for children and invalids. The compartment D will, preferably, be made large enough to contain several bottles G with means within it for holding each bottle individually, while the cover E is made to wholly close the compartmentD and thus cover all the bottles. By having a single large compartment on the side of the bag with separate holding means for each bottle, radiation of heat from one side of the water bag is greatly retarded, as the spaces between the bottles are inclosed by the outer walls and the core of the compartment.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
