This invention relates to wearing apparel.
One object of the present invention is to provide a garment, for example, acoat or jacket with a detachable collar or yoke which, when detached from the coat or jacket, can be formed into another article.
Another object is to provide an article which can be easily formed into a hat or head covering.
A further object is the provision of an article of wearing apparel which can be worn either as a collar on a coat or jacket or as a hat or head covering.
The invention will best be understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying illustrative drawings.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a front view of a garment embodying the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of the back of said garment;
Fig. 3 is a plan view ofa convertible collar andhat-forming article;
Fig. 4 is a front view showing the article formed into a hat; i
Fig. 5 is a view of the back of the hat illustrated in Fig. 4;
Figs. 6 and 7 are views similar to Figs. 4 and 5, respectively, showing. a modification.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the garment Ill embodying the present invention comprises as here shown a coat or jacket l2 and a collar or yoke I4 which when detached and removed from the coat 12 can be formed into a hat as illustrated in Figs. land 5. Preferably, but not necessarily, the coat I2 is a raincoat and the convertible collar or yoke l4 is likewise preferably formed of waterproof or water resistant fabric or other sheet material. As here shown, the coat [2 is provided with a permanent collar l6 having a trimming I8.
, The convertible collar or yoke and hat-forming article [4 is suitably shaped to provide the back part 20 and the laterally spaced shoulder portions 22 and to provide also the curved neck 'portion 24. More specifically, as shown in Fig. 3, said article l4 comprises a fiat, substantially rectangular piece of fabric, which is preferably waterproof or water repellant, provided with a curved re-entrant edge indicated at 24 and laterally spaced portions at the ends of said curved edge forming said shoulder portions 22 when.
the article is worn as a collar or yoke. The shoulder portions 22 are provided with button holes 26 and the back part is provided with butis provided with buttons 34'which engages the button'holes ,2Baof the shouldersportionsl22, with buttons :36 which "engage. in the bu'ttonzholes 3'28 and 30 of back portion :20, and with' buttons .(not
shown) which engage in the button holes 32,
v said last mentioned buttons being positioned under the collar l6 'and being therefore invisible in Figs. 1 and 2. The back portion of convertible collar [4 is foldable along a line 38 providing a folded edge 40 as illustrated in Fig. 2, said back portion being held in folded condition by the buttons'36 which pass through the companion button holes 28 and 3B. A trimming 42 is provided on the back portion 20, this trimming being concealed from view, as it is folded inwardly when the convertible collar is attached to the coat as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and being exposed to view as illustrated in Fig. 4 when the convertible collar is detached from the doat and worn as a hat. A tab 44 is stitched to the convertible collar and hat-forming article I4 at the edge of the neck portion 24 and is foldable' from the position thereof shown in full lines in Fig. 3, to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig, 3, said tab providing a top for the hat formed from said convertible collar l4 as illustrated in Fig. 5. Said tab is provided with a button-hole 46. i
When it is desired to utilize the article M as a hat, as illustrated, for example, in Figs. 4 and 5, i
said convertible collar [4 is removed from coat latter in position for covering the top of the hat.
As illustrated in Figs. 6 and '7, the garment here shown is substantially the same as the gar ment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5. The convertible collar I 4A is the same as the convertible collar [4 except that as here shown the con vertible collar and hat-forming article I4A is-attached by means of buttons to the upper part ton holes 28 and 30. Also, button holes 32 are provided near the neck portion 24. The coat l2 of. the coat, the collar I6 being turnedup. In Fig. '7 there are shown buttons 52 which are attached to thecollar I6 for engaging in the button holes 32 of the neck portion of convertible collar l4 when the latter is worn as a collar or yoke as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that various changes may be made therein. Accordingly, I do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shown or described except to the extent which may be required by the scope of the appended claims.
' Havin thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. .A hat blank foldable from flat-blank formation into hat formation, said hat blank comprising a, flat member having opposite side edges and laterally spaced portions extending laterally inwardly of .the blank from said side edges, re-
spectively, at one end of the blank, and a curved 4 re-entrant edge at said end of the blank extend ing from the inner end of one of said laterally spaced portions to the. inner end of the other of said laterally spaced portions, said Side edges I extending along lines which are in converging relation from said end of theblank toward the opposite end thereof,' said fiat member being foldable into a hat in which said curved reentrant edge extends around the top of the hat and the end-edges of said laterally spacedcportions extend downwardly from the top of; the
hat to the lower edge thereof.
to the inner end of the other of said laterally spaced portions, said side edges extending along lines which are in converging relation from said end of the blank toward the opposite end thereof, said flat member being foldable into a hat in .which said curved re-entrant edge extends around the top of the hat and the end-edges of said laterally spaced portions extend downwardly from the top of the hat to the lower edge thereof, and means on said laterally spaced portions for securing them together in said downwardly extending relation.
