4 Claims.
My invention relates to check pad holders and punch, particularly adapted for holding check pads used for counter service such as restaurant First, to provide a device of this class which may be easily and quickly fastened to a counter or table and positioned horizontally thereon for writing on the checks or checking the same and for punching one of the checks as desired;
Second, to provide a check pad holder of this class which may be quickly secured to the edge of a counter or table and placed in horizontal position and may be readily shifted to a vertical position for cleaning thereunder;
Third, to provide a simple check pad holder and punch of this class which supports a check pad in position so that it is readily accessible to the users of the check pad and permits the removal of one check at a time and permits the pimching of one check at a time;
Fourth, to provide a check pad holder of this class which may be secured to a counter or table without screws or other means of attachment and without in any way marring the counter or table at the place where it is secured;
Fifth, to provide a check pad holder and punch of this class in which the punch may be shifted to Various positions for punching the check as desired on the holder; and
Sixth, to provide a check pad holder and punch of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, easy to shift from place to place on the counter, easy to replace pads therein, efiicient in its action and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a top or plan view of my check pad holder and punch shown positioned on a table or counter, shown fragmentarily, showing portions broken away to facilitate the illustration; Fig. 2 is a front elevational view thereof showing the check pad in position thereon and omitting the punch; Fig. 3 is a side elevational view thereof showing the check pad holder with check pad positioned therein in horizontal position and showing by dash lines the raised or vertical position of the check pad holder; Fig. 4 is-a side elevational view of the check punch assembly.
, Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing:
The counter clamp member I, counter clamp screw 2, check pad holder 3, check pad holder clamp 4, check pad holder and counter clamp support 5 and check punch assembly 5 constitute the principal parts of my check pad holder and punch.
The counter clamp member I is provided with a horizontal upper portion in which is a flat plate and rests upon the check pad holder and counter clamp support 5, as shown best in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing and this support 5 rest upon the edge of the counter C, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. This counter clamp member I is also provided with a downwardly extending vertical portion lb shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The lower side of the portion lb is turned backwardly at lc. This portion lb is reinforced at its connection with the portion lb by means of two integral offset reinforcing portion Id, shown best in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing. Mounted in this portion lc, which is provided with a screw threaded hole is is the clamping screw 2, the one end of which is adapted to fit up against the lower side of the counter or table C for clamping the check holder in position on the edge of the counter or table. This clamp 2 is provided with a head 2a which is flat and servesto facilitate the turning of the screw 2 by the finger and thumb. The support 5 is provided with an upwardly extending edge portion 5a upon which the lower side of the holder memberS rests, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. This member 5 i also provided with upwardly extending ear portions 5b at its opposite sides between which one end of the check pad holder 3 is pivotally mounted by means of a rivet 50 so that the holder member 3 may be raised into vertical position, as shown by dash lines in Fig. 3 of the drawing or may extend downwardly and rest on the portion 5a in substantially horizontal position but spaced from the counter or table. This member 3 is provided with an upwardly extending side portion 3a which forms side walls for the check pad P. This holder 3 is ofiset downwardly at 3b and in this offset portion is mounted the check pad holder clamp 4 so that the upper side of the lower portion 4a is flush with the remainder of the upper side of the bottom portion of the check pad holder 3 so that the check pad will lie evenly thereon. This clamp memtending spring portion 40 which is reinforced with two ribs 4d. The backwardly extending portion 4c is also provided with a slot 4e therein, as shown best in Fig. l of the drawing.
In order to punch the check in the pad P separately, there is provided a check punch assembly 8, as shown best in Figs. 1 and 4 of the drawing which is positioned over the check pad holder and checks, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing and arranged to be shifted longitudinally on the check holder, or may be stationary thereon, as desired.
The check punch assembly includes two side members 6a and 6b which are provided with internally extending portions 60 and 6d which fit over the lower side of the check holder 3. Secured thereto is a cross member 6e which is adapted to ride over the upper side of the check pad when shifted. Positioned slightly above this member Be in spaced relation therefrom suflicient to permit a check of the pad to be positioned in the slot above the members Be is another cross member 6 Both of these members are provided with holes adapted to receive the punches 69 which are supported in a strap member 6h which is secured on the inner side of the upper extended ends of the members 6a and 6b and spot welded or otherwise secured thereto. Each of these members 60 is provided with a washer 6i. Interposed between the washer 62' and the member 61 are springs 69' but with a check interposed slot between the members 6e and 6f, the punch assembly may be shifted to the proper position and the checks punched at the proper place to indicate the charge for the service which is punched in a space 1-" at either side of the check, shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawing. If, however, the member 6 is secured stationarily on the member 3, the check may be disengaged from the pad and placed in the check punch and the check shifted to the proper position and punched. In case the check pad is used without the punch. the checks are checked with a pencil or pen in the space along side the price mark P Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination pad holder and counter clamp support and a check pad holder pivotally mounted near its one end between said ears and arranged to rest horizontally on said edge portion and be shifted to vertical position for cleaning thereunder.
2. In a check pad holder of the class described, the combination of a clamp member arranged to clamp over the edge of a counter, a check pad holder and counter clamp support secured to said clamp member provided with an upwardly extending edge portion and with upwardly extending ear portions at opposite sides of said check pad holder and counter clamp support and a check pad holder pivotally mounted near its one end between said ears and arranged to rest horizontally on said edge portion and be shifted to vertical position for cleaning thereunder, said check pad holder provided with a U-shaped spring clamp adapted to receive one end of the check pad positioned at the opposite end of the holder from said support.
3. In a check pad holder of the class described, the combination of a clamp member arranged to clamp over the edge of a counter, a. check pad holder and counter clamp support secured to said clamp member provided with an upwardly extending edge portion and with upwardly extending ear ,portions at opposite sides of said check pad holder and counter clamp support and a check pad holder pivotally mounted near its one end between said ears and arranged to rest horizontall on said edge portion and be shifted to vertical position for cleaning thereunder, said check pad holder provided with a U-shaped spring clamp adapted to receive one end of the check pad positioned at the opposite end of the holder from said support, said check pad holder also provided with upwardly extending side flanges which rest against the inner side of said ears and are pivotally connected therewith.
4. In a check pad holder and punch of the class described, the combination of a clamp member arranged to clamp over the edge of a counter, a combined check pad holder and counter clamp support secured to said clamp member provided with an upwardly extending edge portion and with upwardly extending ear portions at opposite sides of said edge portion and offset therefrom, a check pad holder provided with upwardly extending side flanges with their ends pivotally connected with said upwardly extending ear portions, and a check punch assembly shiftably mounted longitudinally on said check pad holder provided with downwardly extending leg portions fitted over said upwardly extending side flanges and under the bottom of said check pad holder for supporting said check assembly in shiftable relation with said check pad holder.
