CHECK PAD CASING Filed Nov. 6, 1940 INVENTOR. if/any?! A. Hal/ales 4 MW ATTORNEY.
Patented Feb. 10, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHECK PAD CASING Evangel A. Haveles, Los Angeles, Calif. Application November 6, 1940, Serial No. 364,477
6 Claims.
My invention relates to a check pad casing, more particularly a check pad casing arranged to be clipped on the edge portion of a table, desk or the like, and the objects of my invention are:
First, to provide a check ad casing of this class in which a spring clip member in connection with the check pad casing member is arranged to be clipped over the edge portion of a table, desk or the like in frictional engagement therewith for holding the check pad and check pad casing in certain position on the upper side of said table, desk or the like at the edge portion thereof;
Second, to provide a check pad casing of this class in which a spring clip member is arranged in connection with the check pad casing member and said spring clip member is resilient having a portion thereof extending below the check pad casing and being arranged to tensionally engage the lower side of the edge portion of a table, desk or the like clamping the said edge portion between said check pad casing member and said portion of said spring clip member extending below said check pad casing member;
Third, to provide a check pad casing of this class in which the spring clip member maintains a very firm engaged relation with the edge portion of tables, desks or the like;
the check pad casing member thereof;
Fifth, to provide a check pad casing of this class in which the spring clip member is provided with an angularly disposed edge portion which facilitates the positioning of the spring clip member over the edge portion of tables, desks or the like; 4
Sixth, to provide a novel check pad casing of this class; and
Seventh, to provide a check pad casing of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efiicient, durable and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a top or plan view of my check pad casing; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof showing my check pad casing in connection with the edge of a table, desk or the like which is shown fragmentarily by dash lines; Fig. 3 is an end view-of my check pad casing shown positioned on the edge of a table, desk or the like which is shown by dash lines; and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken from the line 4-4 of Fig. 3 showing by dash lines a fragmentary portion of the edge of a table, desk or the like upon which my check pad casing is positioned.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing.
The check pad casing member I, check pad retaining member 2, and the spring clip member 3, constitute the principal parts and portions of my check pad casing.
The check pad casing member I is substantially rectangular in form, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, and is provided with angular upwardly extending side portions la, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing. This check pad casing member I is preferably made of sheet metal and is provided with an ofiset portion lb at its one end intermediate the side portions la, as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawing. The check pad retaining member 2 is substantially U-shaped in cross section and is arranged to be positioned in the offset portion lb of the check pad casing member I so that the upper side of the bottom portion of the check pad casing member I is substantially in flush horizontal relation with the portion 2a of the check pad retaining member 2, as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawing. This portion 2a of the check pad retaining member 2 is rigidly secured to the offset portion lb of the check pad casing member I. The angularly extending portion 2b of the check pad retaining member 2 is arranged for use in facilitating the positioning of the check pad A, as shown by dash lines, at its one end in the check pad retaining member 2. It being noted that this check pad retaining member 2 is resilient and is arranged to clamp the check pad A at its portion 20, as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawing.
The spring clip member 3 is made of a fiat piece of sheet metal and is formed in the shape, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing, being bent at a right angle forming a corner portion 3a therein and having angularly extending end portions 3b and 3c; the end portion 30 being secured to one of the upwardly extending side portions la of the check pad casing member 1 preferably by spot welding, as shown best in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawing, but may be secured to the check pad casing member I by other means as desired. This spring clip member 3 is resilient and the angularly extending portion 3b is angularly disposed to the portion 311 providing means to facilitate the positioning of this spring clip member 3 over the under side of edge portions of desks, tables or the like, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. When this spring clip member is removed from the edge portion of a table, desk or the like the portions 311 and 3b shift to the dash line position B, as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. It is therefore apparent that the resilient character of this spring clip member 3 provides firm frictional engagement with the under side of edge portions of tables, desks or the like, all as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The angularly extending portion 3d of this spring clip member 3 tends to clamp the edge portion of a table, desk or the like in intermediate relation with itself and thecheck pad casing member I providing a firm tensional engaged relation of said spring clip member 3 and the check pad casing member I in its relation with the edge portion of said table, desk or the like.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a check pad casing of the class described, the combination of a flat check pad casing member provided with upwardly extending side portions, and a spring clip member secured to one of said upwardly extending side portions and extending inwardly from said side portion in spaced relation with the bottom side of said check pad casing member.
2. In a check pad casing of the class described, the combination of a flat check pad casing member provided with upwardly extending side portions, and a spring clip member secured to one of said upwardly extending side portions and extending inwardly from said side portion in spaced relation with the bottom side of said check pad casing member, said spring clip member provided with two extending portions disposed at substantially a right angle from each other.
3. In a check pad casing of the class described, the combination of a flat check pad casing member provided with upwardly extending side portions, and a spring clip member secured to one of said upwardly extending side portions and extending inwardly from said side portion in spaced relation with the bottom side of said check pad casing member, said spring clip mem ber provided with two extending portions disposed at substantially a right angle from each other, one of said extending portions of said spring clip member in substantially parallel aligned relation with one of said upwardly extending side portions of said check pad casing member.
