WALLET Filed July 2, 1943 Patented Jan. 9,` 19h45.'
lnght` Leather Products Co., Inc., Boston,'
ltasslga corporation of Massachusetts l y Application July 2, 1943, semaine. 493,?.41 jl w h h u l h zclaims. l The presentinvention relatesto a lkeeping bills, cards andother things of asimilar nature. Wallets` of the `type described:` in the presentV invention are .for the most partcarried in pockets of garments and` may i, give `a bulky l appearance tothe pocket if not properlydesigned and constructed. r
The `presentlrinvention has for one of its purposes the construction of a.wallet which is readily folded in 'such a mannerj'that when folded the parts do not bulge. This is r accomplished 1 through the construction of the wallet by the use particularly of a flexibly positioned member, the position `of which adjusts itself as the wallet is folded.
The wallet ofthe `present invention is also` characterized by other features which provide useful facilities and which at the same timepermit a maximum utility` of the space within the wallet for holding Various bills, cards and other papers. e r
The invention further `provides the use ofend naps whereby identification cards and otherldey sirable cards or` pictures may be readily exposed I without greatly increasing the elective thickness of the wallet whenthe flaps are folded together in nal closed position.`
Further merits and advantagesof the present invention will `be more fully explained in connection with a` description of the embodiment of theinvention set forth in the specification below when taken in connection with the drawing illustrating the invention in which Figure 1"shows an unfolded outer View of the Wallet with one part illustrated in fragmentary section.
Figure 2 shows an unfolded View looking at the 1` inner side of the wallet.
Figure 3 shows a wallet, and l l Figure lishows a section on the line `lI-II of Figure 2. l
As indicated in the drawing, the wallet normally may comprise four sections, Vthe two centersecdetau of construction of the y tions I and 2 forming the main portion of the wallet in which bills maybe contained, as will be more fully explained later.
The outer end naps 3 and 4 may in certain con l structions,if desired, be omitted but form, how- Vever,`additiona1 desirable features to the` invention.
l if the ends of the piece I I were fixed. In the construction, as indicated more clearly in Figures 1 The central section comprising the sections I and2 is preferably composed of a leather sheet 5 or other suitable material such as fabric or imita-` tion leather which, as indicated in'Figure 4, forms both the inner face 6 and theouter face I of the flaps Sand IIl asindicated in Figure 1r.` As indicated more `clearly in Figurez,
"indicated in Figure 1.` It will further be noticed in Figures 1 and 2 f Griso-ssl l M y e wallet forl wallet as indicated; by the sectionin Figures. I This single piece of .leather` may turnin ,toprovide r a finished edge asindicated at 8Nfor the-outer face l and onthe inside the piece 6 `is carriedoyerinto 6 has asectionremoved from the middle, thereby forming two 4covers 6' `.and ,6oneofwhich forms r an ordinary pocket and the othera pocket `with a window I2 in which visible cards such as calendars or the like may be inserted.
The piece E, as indicated inv Figure 4, forms one side of the pockets inthe portions Ii'and `I' of Figure 2 while the back of the pockets is formed r by the sheet I I which is indicated more clearly in Figure l. This sheet I I extends the whole length of the center section and at its ends is provided with a slot I3 through which there extends a strip I4 cut from the end of the flap 9.. The same construction is applied to the end of thev nap I0, as
`into the open ends of the pockets formed by the,A
portions 6' and 6. These end aps and `4 may be provided with open windows I9 `and 20 ce mented to side sections 2|, 2l of nap 2 and 22, 22 of flap :if h
The space formed between the sheet I I and the sheet inthe, sections G and E" form the two central pockets with the openings opposite each other.
Since the sheet l I must take up a part of the fold of the wallet and therefore is drawn away from the position of the seams` I5 and I6 when the wallet isfolded, ordinarily a bulge would appear and 3, the position of the ends of the sheet I I is s adjustable and the ends of the sheet may draw to the centerfsection, as viewed in Figure 1, when the wallet is folded together. This will prevent any bulging at the center and will make the wallet lie flat and smooth when folded. `The space loe tween the sheet Il and the outer face 'I of the Wallet form a container for the bill fold, the edges l OFFICEy 'l elena.
The flaps 3 and `4 are provided with of the sheet 1, as previously explained, being stitched as indicated in Figures 1 and 2.
In order to facilitate 'the handling of the Wallet, a slight lip 23 may remain on the face 1 so that the pocket for the bill folder section may be easily opened. v-
Various modications and changes in the general shape ci?v the Wallet of the present invention,
`1 ::l.ta1 between the meer fase and the farcies over naps, said-sheet extending just 'short tf the ends of the outer and inner aces, leavingfr'nfar'- ginal sections' at the ends Wh cir-trie inner face and the outer faire aresarriedtogether Without `s'aidsheet being sewed therein, and `irieir'is flex-- ibly coupling sai sheet- With the ends or'A the inner VHap comprisinghb elements `fe'rx'n'ed Iong-itn'dinally of the Wallet in the marginal edges of said flaps at their ends and slots perpendicularly positioned with respect to said tabs in the marginal edges of said sheet at the sides thereof and adapted to be engaged by said tabs, said tabs being sewed in said stitching whereby said sheet may be free to position itself when the Wallet is folded.
. 2@ Aiwallet of the type describedcomprising an outer and an inner face,4 the outer face being the external faces of the Wallet when the wallet is folded along its middle, said inner face comprising an outer sheet and an inner sheet, said outer sheet being cut away along a section to the bottom edge of the Wallet and having portions folded over against theiiiner side of the inner sheet, said ioided over portions being slit in a direction 1ongitudinal with the wallet near the margin of said inner sheet'to form a tab element in a longitudinal direction of the Wallet and said inner sheet being slotted perpendicularly to said tab to be engaged'by'said strip element, said' outer faceand said inrierfaces including sai-'d tab thei'eofbeing stitched at their marginal side edges with the inner 'sheet' positioned iustsli'ort of said stitching whereby the inner sheet is free: for adustment longitudinally whenl the Wallet is folded..
