Claims.

The present invention relates to a new and useful massaging apparatus and constitutes adivision of my copending application Serial'Number 419,656, filed November 18, 1941, for Massaging apparatus.

In the parent case referred to above, there isdisclosed a massaging apparatus for massaging the human body to reduce and eliminate corpulency and fatty tissues as well as to promote healthy muscular development and circulation of the blood. Said massaging apparatus is used for massaging the easily accessible parts of the body such as the back, thighs, stomach and legs. The present massager is adapted as an attachment for the aforementioned large massager and is to be used for the inaccessible portions of the body such as under the arms, the neck, shoulders, face and scalp.

Thus, the principal object of the present invention is to provide a massager adapted to be applied to certain parts of the body not accessible to the conventional large body massager.

A further object of the invention is to providea massager so constructed as to be rigidly mounted on a support but capable of being adjusted to various positions to reach various parts of the body.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a massaging apparatus wherein the massaging rolls are removable whereby thenum-' ber of rolls used can be varied at the will of the user.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a massager having removable jackets in the form of flexible members whereby the same massager can be used for different parts of the body and whereby the rigidity .of the roller surface can be varied at will.

To the accomplishments of these objects and such others as may appear as the description of the invention proceeds, the various features of the present invention reside in certain devices, combinations, and arrangements of parts fully descirbed hereinafter. The illustrated embodiment of the present invention will be readily understood from an inspection of the accompanying drawing showing a preferred embodiment of the invention,

"Referring to the drawing in detail, the illustrated embodim'ent of the present invention comprises a main frame portion "l0 preferably constructed of wood although other materials could be used. The upper and lower faces of the frame member are provided with grooves ll extending the full width of the frame. A groove 12 is provided in the front face of the frame member H). A U-sha'ped bracket 13 is secured to the rear face of the frame at a single, central point by means of a threaded bolt l4 passing through the frame and bracket. A Wing nut l5 with the bolt M to hold the frame and bracket rigidly together. As a result of this construction it will be readily apparent that the frame can be rotated in a vertical plane about the bolt as an axis and can be locked in any desired position by means of the wing nut IS.

A pair of supporting members l6 are pivotally secured to the two arms of the U -shaped bracket by means of threaded bolts l1 and. held rigid with respect to said arms by means of wing nuts l8. This will permit frame It] to be rotated about the bolts H into an upper or lower position. As shown in dotted lines in Figure 3, the frame is supported in an upwardly tilted position for a purpose that will appear as the description progresses.

The frame member ID has mounted thereon a plurality of rollers carried by individual brackets I9. In the present embodiment four such brackets are shown but it will be apparent that a lesser number can be used depending on the use to which the rollers are to be put, the particular construction shown being readily adapted for this purpose as will appear below. Each bracket I9 is provided with portions 20 slidably receivable in grooves ll of the frame member. Rollers 2! are rotatably secured to the brackets l9 by means of screws 22. A spring element 23 is secured to the rear face of each bracket and is slidably received in groove l2 of the frame member. The spring elements 23 bearing against the rear surface of groove l2 hold the brackets against free lateral movement. The brackets, however, can be readily removed by merely applying pressure against the force of the springs and sliding the brackets out of the grooves.

Figure 3 shows the mariner of 'jusing' the present massager as an attachment for thelar'ge massager disclosed in the parent case and the particular mamier of mounting same. As described in the parent case, the large massager generally indicated by numeral26 is suitably mounted on a door 21 and is provided with special means for raising or lowering the massager'fZG to any desired position. Massager'26 is provided on each of its sides with channel members 28 adapted to receive supporting members IS, The length of each channel member is approximately the length of each supp rting member and insures a rigid support for the small massager. Since the large massager is adjustable to any height, the small massager is therefore also adjustable to any desired position.

The operation of the present device is as follows: After being mounted on the large massager as shown in Figure 3, the main portion of the small massager can be rotated and tilted into any desired position. For example, if it is desired to massage under the chin, the frame can be tilted into the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 3 by merely loosening wing nuts 18 and moving the frame into the correct position. Tightening of the wing nuts will hold the frame locked in this position. If it is desired to massage the shoulders, the frame can be tilted in a downward direction in a manner similar to that described above. If itis desired to use a single roller for massaging the scalp, the remaining rollers may easily be removed as previously described.

From the above desclription, it is readily ap-*v parent that the present apparatus is well designed to accomplish the objects of the invention. It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
