Description

J1me 1938- A. KOSCHWITZ DEVICE FOR THE MASSAGE OF THE FOOT MUSCLES Ffiled June 28, 1937 d4 FEED Koscfl w/ 7'2.
Patented June 21, 1938 UNITED STATES 2,121,250 DEVICE FOR THE MASSASGE OF THE FOOT MUS Alfred Koschwltz. Leipzig, Germany Application June 28, 1937, Serial No. 150,720
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a device for the massage of the foot muscles and consists of a frame in which revolving massage bodies to be moved by the feet themselves are arranged.
The characteristicfeatures of the invention .conslst in that two movable massaging bodies, each one destined for one foot, are arranged axially next to one another, on which the feet are massaged by a reciprocal-movement.
Furthermore, the massage bodies are constructed as so-called form rolls and are supported excentrically in such a manner that when being turned by the foot to be massaged, they roll along the foot, performing a tumbling movement.
It is also possible without difficulty to provide the massage bodies performing the revolving or tumbling movement, with special rises or with grooves or other recesses on the surface. For this purpose, the device can be so arranged that the revolving massage bodies are made exchangeable in the bearing frame for various foot mas-' sages. Neither would it prepare difficulties to provide the device with a mechanical drive, for instance for massage institutes.
The device embodying one example of carrying out this invention is illustrated in the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side view, Fig. 2 is a view from above and Fig. 3 is a front view.
In the frame a. serving as a support, the massage bodies are excentrically arranged in such a manner that when being turned by the foot rested thereon which is to be moved to and-fro, they perform a tumbling movement similar to that executed in the massage 'by hand. The corresponding curve-like form of the surface is adapted to the foot and warrants a good stimulation of the foot muscles according to the place on which the foot is set.
In the simplest form shown here as example, 6 the frame a is placed on the floor like a foot-rest, and the feet undergo a massage through a reciprocal movement by which the rollers b are turned. This form of constructing the device requires no drive whatever and can be used by any 10 footpatient having no expert knowledge. The massage bodies 12 can of course also be given a different shape than that shown here by way of example, and their surfaces can be roughed or fluted in any way. 1
It is also possible without difficulty to use various forms of massage bodies in the same frame by making them exchangeable.
Having nowparticularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, I declare go that what I claim as new is:
A massage device comprising a base provided with upstanding and axially spaced bearing members, a pair of elongated massage rollers arranged in axially spaced relation to each other above 5 said base, each of said rollers being provided with supporting means extending from each end thereof and resting on said bearing members, said supporting means being arranged in opposed vertically spaced, relation from opposite ends of 30 the rollers and on opposite sides of the axis of the rollers to result in a tumbling movement of said rollers during reciprocal movement of the feet of the user of the device.
