. l This invention relates to amassa'ging ldevice for reducing obesity, and has 'for its principal object the provision of a small,` simple, neat, power'- driven device for use "in weight reduction parlors and the like, which will be very universal in its' application to various portions of the human body. Another object of the invention is to provide a massaging roller which will produce an alternating squeezing or pinching action on the flesh in combination with a rollingV actionj for the reduction of fatty tissue.
Other' objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and eillciency.
` These will become more apparent from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.

Fig. I8 is a similar section, taken on the line 8-8,Fig. 6.
The improved massaging device is supported on two inverted, U-shaped frame members, preferably formed of metal tubing. The frame members consist of two vertical, downwardly-extending leg portions IU joined by means of arcuate handle portions I I. The four leg portions I Il support a rectangular iloor I2, from which two end plates I3 extend upwardly.
The end plates I3 are joined at the front and back of the device by means of front and rearl panels I4. The upper extremities of the end plates I3 are rounded, and each carries a relatively narrow, arcuate guard plate I5, the lower extremities of which join the panels I4.
This provides an open space at the top of the device which exposes a plurality of massage rollers I6. The rollers I6 aremounted in, and exe tend between, circular roller plates I1, there being one of the discs I1 adjacent each extremity ofthe opening in the topof the device.
The discs I1 are'securedon a disc shaft I8 extending longitudinally of the device and are jour-f nalled in bearings" I9 on the two end plates I3.
The shaft I8 is rotated from" a belt wheel`20 securedthereon; `A driving belt 2I extends from the wheel 2U to a driving pulley 22 on acountershaft 23 journalledgin supporting bearingsl 2 4 on the The counter-shams isdriven from a speedreduction shaft 2'5` through "the "medium-of Aa belt 26;""The` shaft 25 is driven Mfrein"an electricmotor 21 through the medium of a drive belt 28. shaft 25 carries speed reduction pulleys 29 for the belts 26 and 28. The current to the motor 25 is controlled from a suitable control switch 30.
It can be readily seen that, when the motor 21 is operating, the discs I1 will carry the rollers I6 in parallel relation around the top of the device.
In use, the patient may sit upon the rollers I6,
, grasping the handles II in the two hands, or the patient may sit astride of the entire series of rollers, supporting himself by one the handles II. For reduction of the calves of the legs, the patient may stand on `one foot at the side of the device. allowing the calf of the other leg to rest upon the rollers. The unique construction of the device adapts itself to many other massaging uses.
The rollers may have any desired contour or e configuration. It is preferred to form them as shown in detail in Figs. 5 to 8, inclusive. In these figures the rollers IB are preferably turned from hard wood and the like, and terminate in rounded end flanges 3|.
A plurality of diagonally placed rings 32 are placed intermediate the end anges 3 I. I'he rings 32 are either formed on the rollers i6 or permanently secured thereto to form a single unitary roller. The rings 32 alternate in placement; that is, the rst, third, and fifth rings incline inwardly in planes positioned substantially at 45 to the axis of the rollers I6. The intermediate rings, that is, the second, fourth, and sixth rings, incline outwardly at a similar angle.
When the roller is rolled against the flesh, the angular placement of the rollers produces a kneadlng or pinching action. For instance, the llesh between the first two rollers will be pinched gradually as the roller rotates The next 180 of rotation will result in Ia similar squeezing or pinching action between the next adjacent pair of rollers, the purpose being to break down the fatty tissues of the body for weight reduction purposes. The` ends of the rollers are provided within the scope of the Iappended claims, Wi-thout departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is: l.
