HYDROEXTRACTOR Filed June '7, 1941 INVENTOR. /vA/v#a: P575? QEA/XSSEW.
AT TOR Y Patented Feb. 8, 1944 Ivanhoe Peter Denyssen, Yeadon,
to American Viscose Corporation,
Pa., assignor Wilmington,
Del., a corporation of Delaware Application June 7,
8 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements inhydroextractors. More particularly the invention relates to improvements in hydroextractors for treating yarn and thread packages.
Where yarn and thread in package form is treated with a liquid it is the general practice to first wrap the package in a permeable fabric covering member. After the liquid treatment the excess liquid is removed from the covered. packages in a hydroextractor. In a conventional form of hydroextractor the packages are supported on the rotor on vertical rods. With this type of apparatus the covering members often become disarranged which results in tangling of the yarn. Also sometimes the covering members are distended and are damaged by rubbing against the casing surrounding the rotor.
This invention has for its principal object to provide an improved hydroextractor having means for protecting the material being extracted.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved hydroextractor for treating yarn and thread packages having means for protecting the yarn and thread packages.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hydroextractor for treating yarn and thread packages having means for preventing excessive stretching of the package cover arising from centrifugal force and protection of the cover thereby.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description and accompanying drawing.
In the drawing is shown an elevational view with parts broken away of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
in the drawing reference character i indicates the rotor of a hydroextractor having 2 on which are pivotally mounted the package supporting rods 3. The rods are held in vertical position by the upper plate A. The rotor is revolved by suitable means such as an electric motor la. The rotor is provided with a cover or housing member 5 which may be raised to an inoperative position above the rotor by the cable means 9. The housing is guided in its movements by the attached brackets 6 and l which slidably engage the upright member 8. The hydroextractor is provided with a protecting member comprising the annular screen member II which rests on a ledge l3 adjacent the edge of the lower plate 2. The annular member I2 is attached to the outside of the screen member adjacent its upper end. The housing is also proa lower plate 1941, Serial No.397,144
vided with an inwardly extending annular member l0 which is positioned below the annular member B2 on the screen when the housing is in its operative position as shown in the drawing.
In the operation of the device, when the housing member is lifted or raised to its inoperative position the annular ring in engages the ring it on the screen member and lifts the screen memher to an inoperative position with the housing. When the housing is allowed to descend the screen member descends with it until it contacts the ledge on the plate 2. The screen member has sufficient frictional engagement with the lower plate so that the screen member rotates with the rotor. With this form of apparatus the screen member prevents the yarn package and covering member fromdistending too far, It also prevents them from contacting the walls of the casing.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown, it is to be understood that changes and variations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim is:

An extractor comprising a rotor, means on th rotor for retaining material to be extracted, means supported on the rotor for protecting the material being extracted, a casing member surrounding the rotor, said casing member being movable from its position surrounding the rotor and means carried by said casing member for removing the protecting means from the rotor to expose said retaining means.
2. An extractor comprising a rotor, means on. the rotor for retaining material to be extracted, annular means supported on the rotor for protecting the material being extracted, a casing member surrounding the rotor, said casing member being movable Irom its position surrounding the rotor and means carried by said casing member for removing the protecting means from the rotor to expose said retaining means.
3. An extracttor comprising a. rotor, means on the rotor Ior retaining material to be extracted, perforated annular means carried. by the rotor ror, protecting the material being extracted, a casing'member surrounding the rotor. said casing member being movable from its position sure rounding the rotor and means carried by said casing member for removing the protecting means from the rotor to expose said retaining means.
4. An extractor comprising a rotor, means on the rotor for retaining material to be extracted, means supported on the rotor for protecting the material being extracted. a casing member surrounding the rotor, said casing member being vertically movable from its position surrounding the rotor and means carried by said casing member for removing the protecting means from the rotor to expose said retaining means.
5. An extractor comprising a rotor, means for supporting yarn packages on the rotor, means supported on the rotor for protecting the yarn packages, a casing member surrounding the rotor, said casing member being movable from its position surrounding the rotor and means carried by said casing member for removing the protecting means from the rotor to expose said supporting means.
6. An extractor comprising a rotor, means for supporting yarn packages on the rotor, an annu lar screen member supported on the rotor surrounding the yarn packages, a casing member surrounding the rotor, said casing member being movable from its position surrounding the rotor and means carried by said casing member for removing the annular screen member from the rotor to expose said supporting means.
'7. An extractor comprising a rotor, means for retaining yarn packages on the rotor, an annular screen member supported on the rotor surrounding the yarn packages, having a laterally extendretaining yarn packages on the rotor, an annular screen member supported on the rotor surrounding the yarn packages, having an outwardly extending flange, a casing member surrounding the rotor, said casing member beingmovable from its position surrounding the rotor and an inwardly extending annular member carried by said casing member for cooperating with the outwardly extending flange for removing the annu 1 lar screen member from the retaining means.
