Thisinvention relates to new and useful improvements in a waist high garment placket closure.

More particularly, the invention contemplates a closure which comprises flexible blades mounted on the garment along the sides of the placket or slit thereof and directed towards each other in such a way that they may be hooked together for holding the placket closed. An important feature of the new construction resides in the fact that it will take the place of slide fasteners and the fasteners generally used for this purpose which are not available because of the war.

An important inherent feature of the closure meansresides in the fact that it will retain the placket or slit in a securely closed position and prevent gaping thereof. Moreover,- the hooked together blades may be easily unhooked when desired to make removal of the garment simple.

The invention also contemplates modified constructions embodying the essential features thereof.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a skirt provided with a placket having closure means in accordance with this invention.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed view of a portion of Fig. 1 showing particularly the placket region.

The placket garment closure, in accordance with this invention, is used in combination with a waist high garment l5 having a placket l6 extended downwards from its top to a point bounded at the bottom by a bottom horizontal line of stitches ll. This placket It must be located at an area which assumes a concave or convex form when the garment is worn. With the construction disclosed the placket will assume a convex formation to follow the wearers hips.

A flexible blade [8 is mounted on the garment l5 along one side of the said placket l6 and is directed inwards. Another flexible blade I8 is mounted on the garment I5 along the other side of the placket l6 and is directed outwards and is hooked upon the first named blade 18. These blades are mounted within cloth casings 20.

More particularly, each of the blades I8 and I 8 is encased with a cloth strip which is bent around one side thereof and which has its edges superimposed and secured together by a line of stitches 21. One side of the placket I6 is indicated by reference numeral 22 and the other side by 23. The flexible blade I8 and its casing 20 is secured to the side 22 by a line of stitches 24. The flexible blade 18' and its casing 20 is secured to the side 23 by a line of stitches 25. The placket extends downwards to the line of stitches I! previously described.

At the top, the sides 22 and 23, respectively, connect with the ends of a waist band 26 secured upon the top of the skirt l5. This Waist band is provided with fastening means by which it may be held closed. The fastening means comprises a hook 21 on one of the parts engageable with an eye 28 on the other of the parts. The top end of the casing 20 of the blade I8 is secured closed by a short line of stitches 29 thus forming a pocket 30 into which the top end of the flexible blade l8 and its casing may engage when the closure means is closed. This construction serves to hook together the said flexible blades.

The operation of the device may be best understood by examining Figs. 2, 3 and 5 and noting that this is the closed condition of the closure means. Because the flexible blades I8 and I8 are in a convex formation the closure means will be rigidly held closed. When it is desired to open the closure means the hook and eye 21, 28 must first be opened and then the blades I8 and I8 straighten out and unhook from each other.

The parts will then be in a position as shown in Fig. 4.

In Figs. 9-12 a modified form of the invention is disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form, particularly in the fact that tab portions 22 and 23' project from the sides of the placket IS. The blades l8 and I8 are respectively mounted upon the ends of these tabs. Each of the blades is encased in its casing 20, as previously explained. These blades and casings are secured in position by lines of stitches 30 and 3|. The top and bottom ends of the blade I8 project a small distance, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 9. Buttonholes 32 or other openings or pockets are formed immediately adjacent the top and bottom points of the placket l6 as shown in Fig. 9.

The placket IB is closed by rolling the blades l8 and l8 with their casings 20 around within the tabs 22' and 23' to form the core of the roll. The projecting ends of the blade I 8' are then engaged into the buttonholes 32, as clearly shown in Fig. 9. The closure is now closed. The rolled parts may be easily seen by an examination of Fig. 10. Thus the placket I6 is closed and held against gaping, particularly when the skirt or other garment with which it is being worn holds the blades in a concaved or convexed condition.

It is to be understood that the waist band 26 may be provided with snap fasteners or other suitable fastening means such as buttons and buttonholes, also that the waist band may be entirely eliminated when the device is used in connection with other articles in which a waist band is not required.

While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. In combination with a garment having a placket located at an area which assumes a concaved formation when the garment is worn, flexible tab portions extended from the edges of said lacket, flexible blades mounted upon the extremities of said tab portions, said tab portions being rolled using said blades as a core, and means for releasably retaining said roll in its formation.

2. In combination with a garment having a placket located at an area which assumes a concaved formation when the garment is worn, flexible tab portions extended from the edges of said placket, flexible blades mounted upon the extremities of said tab portions, said tab portions being rolled using said blades as a core, and means for releasably retaining said roll in its formation, comprising end portions projecting from one of said blades and engaging through buttonholes formed in said garment at the top and at the bottom of said placket.

3. In combination with a garment having a placket, flexible tab portions extended from the material of said garment on opposite sides of said placket, and flexible blades mounted upon the free extremities of said tab portions, said tab portions being rolled upon said blades as a core for closing said placket, one of said blades being of a length greater than its respective tab portion having free ends engageable with the complementary button holes formed in said garment adjacent the ends of said placket for holding said tab portions rolled.
