LP. B. BARKLEY. Harness Loop.
N0. 232,167. Patented Sept. 14,1880.
LFETERSA PHOTQLITMOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C4 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK B. BARKLEY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
HARNESS-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,167, dated September 14, 1880.
Application filed J nly 17, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, FRANK B. BARKLEY, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Loops, of which the following` isa specification.
This invention relates to those metallic bearing-plates which are fitted in the bend or bight of harness-straps, for the purpose of preventing the latter from being worn out by constantly chang against rings or other similar attachments; and my improvement consists in making such plates of U shape, so as to afford two arms, of which one arm has east with it a single loop, while the other arm has two loops cast therewith. These three loops, however7 are not of the same area, the two at the ends of the plate being of such size as to admit only a single thickness of strap, while the other loop, which is located near the bend of said plate, is of such capacity as to receive a double thickness of the strap, as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a perspective view, showing my improved harnessloop suspended from a ring and having a strap applied to it. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the loop detached from the ring and strap.
The plate A, which is composed of any suitable material, is bent at B, so as to afford two members, C C', of which the one, C, has at its lower end a loop, D, while the other member, C, is provided with a similar loop, D. Furthermore, this member C has a second loop, D", located about half-way between the loop D and the bend B, the opening in said loop D being large enough to admit two straps, as shown in Fig. 1. That portion of the bend B which rides upon the ring E or other support is made crowning, as at F in Fig. 2, so as to prevent the edges of the plate A wearing ont by rubbing against said ring.
Vhen strap G is passed around the plate A B C C the bight G of said strap incloses the bend B, the loops D D preventing lateral play of the strap at the lower end of said plate, while the other loop, D, has the punched portion G ofthe strap passed through it, as seen in Fig. 1.
It is evident that the strap G rests snugly upon the easy bearing aiiorded by the bend B of the plate A B C C, which latter sustains all the wear and tearincidental to the harness being hung from the ring E. Consequently this leather strap will last for an indefinite period of time.
l claim as my invention- The U -shaped harness bearin g-plate, having the arms C C, provided with the loops D D D, the loop D being east upon the arm C and the loops D D upon the arm C', the loops D D being ot' a size to admit a single thickness and the loop D a double thickness of strap, as and for the purpose stated.
ln testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
FRANK B. BARKLEY.
