This invention relates to improvements in cosmetic containers, and the principal object thereof is to provide a unitary, complete and compact holder for cosmetics which can be readily carried about the person.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel form of cosmetic holder or container simulating and having the general contour of a match book.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel cosmetic holder or container having a powder compartment, a holder for a lipstick and a mirror compactly contained therein, the entire holder or container being of general wedge shape.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cosmetic holder or container having a pliable cover and being especially adapted for use in sports or with sports clothing.

Other objects of the invention will be stated in the annexed description and drawing, which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof.

Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the improved container, with the front cover and catch member partially broken away to show the interior thereof;

Fig. 3 is a front view with the cover in fully open position;

Fig. 4 is a sectional view along the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 5 is a sectional view along the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.

The device consists primarily of an inner body member and an outer exible covering therefor. The said inner body member comprises a hollow, substantially truncated, wedge-shaped metal casing I and a solid extension 1 thereon, said extension 'I having its top end rounded and having its opposite end secured to the upper face 8 of said casing.

Casing I is provided with an opening ll in the front wall thereof, said casing being adapted to hold face powder, rouge, a flat powder puff or any other cosmetic or cosmetic article. The front face of casing I is provided with a cover 5 closing the opening 4, said cover being hingedly connected to the front wall of said casing by means of a hinge 3. Positioned on the front wall of said casing, on the side opposite hinge 3, is the conical-shaped catch member 6, said catch member being horizontally slidable and being adapted to hold cover 5 in closed position.

Surrounding extension l and contacting it at a substantial portion thereof is the U-shaped catch member or retainer 9, one leg of said retainer 9 being out of contact with member 'I and being substantially longer than the opposite leg thereof. It will be noted that the leg of the U-shaped member 9 contacting extension 1 eX- tends to and abuts the wall 8 of casing I and has its outer face substantially flush with the outer face of the rear wall of casing I.

Starting at a point II onv the free leg of the U-shaped member 9 and continuing almost completely around the body member is the outer pliable cover I0, said cover being cemented to the outer face of the U-shaped member 9 and the rear wall of casing I, the said cover I0 dependo ing a substantial distance below the lower wall 2 of casing I. Cover I0 is of substantially the same width as casing I.

An inner pliable lining I3, starting at the lower wall 2 of casing I and terminating at the free end I9 of the outer covering I Il, is secured or cemented to the inner face of the outer covering IIJ. A channel-shaped clamp member I2 is secured by clamping or otherwise securing the same over the free end edges of lining I3 and the outer covering I0. e

Referring to Fig. 4, a loop member I5 having a pair of flap extensions I1 is positioned on the lower inner face of cover I0, the said flap extensions passing through a pair of slits formed in lining member I3, said flap extensions being held between the adjacent faces of the outer covering member IIJ and the lining I3.

It should be noted that the cover member Ill is of sufficient length so that when it is folded around casing I, the loop member I5 when fully formed will not contact the lower wall 2 of said casing and the clamped free ends of cover I0 and lining I3 may be engaged by the free leg of the catch member on retainer 9.

A lipstick 2| or any other tubular container may be held within loop I5. A mirror 20 may be provided, said mirror being cemented or otherwise secured to the lining member I3.

In order to properly finish the side walls of casing I and extension I, a strip of decorative material 23 having the same outline as said walls is cemented or adhered thereto.

I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention but it is obvious that numerous changes and omissions may be made without departing from its spirit.

I claim:

1. A cosmetic container comprising a body member, said body member comprising a casing and an extension secured thereto, a transverse U-shaped retaining member having one of its legs secured to said extension, the opposite leg of said retaining member being out of contact with said extension, a pliable covering member secured to the outer face of said retaining member and the rear wall of the casing, said covering member substantially encompassing the body member, said retaining member being adapted to releasably engage one of the ends of said cover member.

A cosmetic container comprising a body member, said body member comprising a hollow substantially truncated wedge-shaped casing and an extension secured to the upper wall of said casing ,a transverse U-shaped retaining member having one of its legs secured to said extension and having its other leg removed therefrom, a pliable covering member secured to the outer face of said retaining member and the rear wall of the casing, said covering member depending a substantial distance below the lower wall of said casing and continuing substantially completely around the body member, one end of said covering member being adapted to be releasably retained by the free end of the retaining member.

A cosmetic container comprising a body member, said body member comprising a hollow casing and an extension secured to the upper wall of said casing, a transverse U-shaped retaining member having one of its legs secured to said extension and having its opposite leg removed therefrom, the leg of said retaining member contacting the said extension member extending to and abutting the upper wall of the casing and having its outer face substantially flush with the outer face of the rear wall of the said casing, a pliable cover having one of its ends secured to the outer face of said retaining member and having its other end free and depending a substantial distance below the lower wall of the casing, said cover member being also secured to the rear wall of said casing and continuing almost completely around the body member, a pliable lining starting at the lower Wall of the casing and terminating at the free end of said pliable cover secured to the inner face of said pliable cover, the free endshof the cover and lin'- ing being adapted to be releasably held by the free end of the retaining member.

5. A cosmetic container asclaimed in claim 4, in which a channel-shaped clamp member is secured over the free end edges of the lining and cover.
