SANITARY WASTE .PAIL LINING Filed Aug. 4, 194,1

Patented May 11, 1943 UNITED STATES TENT OFHC 1 Claim.
This invention relates to sanitary waste pail lining.
An object of this invention is to provide a lining which may be made of inexpensive waterproof material, such as Cellophane, oiled or waxed paper, or other paper, folded in a way that will make it collapsible, so that the lining may be folded up compactly for shipping purposes.
A further object of this invention is to provide a lining of the character described, provided with a rim at the top to catch over the rim of the pail, and made a heavier paper than the body of the lining, and into which the body of the lining may be collapsed.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a lining of the character described, having a corrugated body and a bottom of heavier paper than the body of the lining.
Still a further object of this invention is to provide a neat and durable lining of the character described, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to unfold, compact for the purpose of shipment, sanitary in use, and practical and highly eificient.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of the application will be indicated in the following claim.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a vertical elevational View of a pail provided with a lining embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the lining in collapsed condition;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the lining in collapsed condition; and
Fig. 4 is a partial, vertical cross-sectional View of the upper end of the lining, engaging the rim of the pail.
Referring now in detail, It] designates a pail provided with a lining H embodying the invention. The pail H] has a bottom wall l2, a cylindrical wall l3 and a rolled upper rim M. The pail l may be provided with a cover l5 of usual construction.
The lining H comprises a corrugated body which is collapsible to compact shape, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. At the bottom of the body 20, is a bottom wall 22 preferably of heavier paper than the paper from which the body 20 is made. The body 20 may be made of inexpensive waterproof material, such as Cellophane, oiled or waxed paper, or any other suitable sheet material.
Attached to the upper end of the body 20, is a rim 3!] made of heavier material than the material of which the body 20 is made. Rim 30 is annular and comprises a central, downwardly skirted portion 3 I, from which there extends outwardly a flange 32. Extending upwardly from the flange 32 is an inclined portion 33, from which there extends a downwardly curved portion 34. Extending from the downwardly curved portion 35 is a downwardly extending cylindrical skirted portion 35.
The upper end 20a of the body 20, is pasted to the inner surface of portions 33 and 34 of the rim 30. The portion 34 of the rim is adapted to fit over the rim l4 of the pail, as illustrated in the drawing. When the body is collapsed, it fits substantially wholly between the skirted portions 31 and 35.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Furthermore, although the device H has been described as a liner for pails or cans, it will be understood that the same may be used as a receptacle or for the like purposes.
It will be noted that the body 20 of the article H is constructed like a bellows, so that the body may be collapsed in compact form, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A liner for a pail comprising an annular rim member adapted to engage the open end of a pail, said rim member having a downwardly extending cylindrical wall adapted to be received within the pail, a horizontal flange extending outwardly therefrom, an upwardly and outwardly annular tapered portion extending from said flange, an annular downwardly curved portion extending from said tapered portion and adapted to engage the upper rim edge of the pail, a downwardly extending, annular, skirted wall extending from said curved portion and adapted to be disposed outside of said pail, an annular bellows like collapsible body, the upper end of said body being received within said rim member and attached to the inner surfaces of said tapered and curved portions of said rim member, and a'bottom wall attached to the bottom of said bellows body.
