Description
Dec. 24, 1935. c HARVEY 2,@25,28l
LINER FOR SINK STRAINERS Filed March 2, 1935 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. 24, 1935 UNITED STATES LINER FOR SINK STRAINE-RS Harold 0. Harvey, Sturgis, Mich" assignor to Harvey Paper Products 00., Sturgis, Mich.
Application March 2, 1935, Serial No. 9,056
2 Claims.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide a paper liner which is especially well adapted for use with receptacles adapted to strain garbage in the corner of a sink.
Second, to provide a liner of the foregoing character having means associated therewith for lifting the liner out of the strainer.
Third, to provide an improved paper receptacle for straining and disposing of garbage and the like.
Objects relating to details and economies of my invention will appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a sink strainer containing a paper liner embodying features of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a view in section taken on a line corresponding to line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of my liner blank in the flat.
Referring to the drawing, I is a triangular garbage receptacle known as a sink strainer. The strainer is adapted to be placed in the corner of a sink to receive garbage, the bottom 2 of the receptacle being perforated at 3. Receptacles of this type are well known and are usually made of enameled ware. The receptacle l forms no part of my invention.
For the sink strainer, I provide a paper liner 4 comprising a one-piece blank 5 cut, scored and folded to fit within the strainer, waxed paper or parchment being preferred. The blank is of substantially triangular shape and is provided with a bottom 6 and flared side walls 9 and I having upright flaps II and I2 extending thereabove. The rounded portions of the flared side walls are provided with vertical corrugations or pleats 13 to conform the same readily to theside walls of the strainer. The flap II is preferably corrugated with the side wall 9, while the flaps 12 are not corrugated. The bottom 6 is provided with drain openings [4 adjacent the side wall 9, this being usually the low part of the strainer when disposed in the corner of a sink.
In use, the blank is set up and placed in the strainer I as shown by Figs. 1 and 2. When the strainer is ready to be emptied, the flaps l0 and is possible to omit the flaps H and I2, although I consider these upstanding flaps a very important feature of my invention. The corrugated portions enable the liner to adapt itself to quite a range of sizes and considerable variation in shapes of strainers.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in an embodiment which I have found very practical. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe other embodiments or adaptations, as it is believed this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my improvements as may be desired.
Although I have shown and described a certain specific embodiment of my invention, I am fully aware that many modifications thereof are possible. My invention is therefore not to be restricted except in so far as is necessitated by the prior art and by the spirit of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A paper liner of the character set forth, comprising a one-piece blank of substantially triangular shape having a flat liner supporting bottom and flared side walls provided with vertical corrugations, the bottom having a drain opening, and upright flaps on said side walls adapted to be gathered together to close the top opening of the liner and provide a handle for lifting the same and contents like a bag.
2. A liner of the character set forth, comprising a one-piece blank of substantially triangular shape having a liner supporting bottom and flared side walls provided with vertical corrugations, and upright flaps on said side walls adapted to be gathered together to close the top opening of the liner and provide a handle for lifting the same and contents.
HAROLD C. HARVEY.
