Description
(No Model.)
0. HOWARD.
Churn Powers. No. 231,490. Patented Aug. 24,1880.
witnesses f 711] @0607 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES HOWARD, OF OLIVE, NEW YORK.
CHURN-POWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,490, dated August 24, 1880. Application filed May 12, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, CHAS. HOWARD, of Olive, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ohurn-Powei-s; and I do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings, l1ereinat'ter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein l have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished from others of a similar class, togethor with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to that class of churns known as the dash-churm and its nature consists in certain important modifications in the details of the same, whereby the dash may be worked up and down with the greatest facility-to wit, in providing a double-acting lever, whereby the dash may be worked with the greatest ease, causing it to strike with increased speed, and by fastening the same to the churn with a simple arrangement, whereby the lever maybe removed with the greatest facility, arranged and operated in the manner hereinafter more fully set forth.
The accompanying sheet of drawings, with letters of reference marked thereon, illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a churn with my invention applied thereto. Figs. 2 and 3 represent details.
The construction of my invention and arrangement of the same are as follows, to wit:
The churn A is of the usual form, and is provided with a dash, working up and down in the ordinary manner.
B is a circular shoe mounted on the churn A by screws, said shoe being made circular on the outside, where the standard 0 is connected, standard 0 being cut circular at the foot. By raisin g orloweri n gstandard O the top ofstandard may be moved to or from the churn, in order to set the top of standard 0 the proper distance from dash H.
T is a plate of iron with a slit in it bolted to standard 0, resting on shoe B, to prevent standard 0 from going down too far. D Dare two levers pivoted to standard 0. E is a connecting-rod connecting the two levers D D togcther. F is a spring fastened to the standard U, and connected to short lever l), to assist in raising the dash H. K is a collar attached to the short lever D, and the dash H passing through the collar K, fastening to the dash H with a thumb-screw, I.
When the churn is in working order the operator places his hand on the long lever D, pressing it down, bringing the dash H down in the churn A, when the spring F raises it again.
Having thus described my in vention,I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the shoe B, standard 0, plate '1, and levers D D with connecting-rod E, spring F, and collar Kof a churn, arranged and operating substantially as herein described.
CHARLES HOWARD.
