IMPROVEMENT IN CAR-MOVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,261, dated August 18, 1874; application filed May 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, NOAH A. Lnwrs and- Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Car-Movers, of which the following is a specification:
The invention is an improvement in a wellknown class of devices for moving cars by manual power. The improvement relates to the construction of the fulcrum-p1ate which is applied to the end of the lever of the implement, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a side elevation of the implement, showing it as when applied to the car. Fig.2 is a detail, showing the front end.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the operating-lever. B is the fulcrumstud. O is the fulcrum.
The lever and the stud are hinged together at the fulcrum, as seen in the drawing. When the implement is applied to the car, the stud is inclined forward from the step D, while the long end of the lever A is raised from the horizontal to any desired angle. E is a jaw which projects from the under side of the lever, to which is affixed a point, E. On the end of the lever (attached to the strengthening-plate G) is a fixed jaw or point, H. When the implement is applied formoving a car, the point H is forced into the wood and holds fast while the pressure is on and the car is moving, at which time the point F attaches itself and assists in holding the mover and prevents it dropping when the operator is getting a new point of leverage with the stud B.
What we claim is ThefuIcrumTpIa-te for the lever A, having the jaw E, flange G, and points F and H, all arranged as shown and described, to adapt the implement for use, as specified.
