SAFETY RAZOR Dandy J. Mayeux, Bremerton, Wash.
Application June 14, 1940, Serial No. 340,504
1 Claim.
My invention relates to safety razors and an object of the invention is to provide a safety razor that is casted or molded in one piece of plastic material, such as tenite or the like, whereby it is very light in weight and is produced at an extremely low cost. Another object is to provide a one-piece safety razor whose head and handle are so correlated as to give a very acute shave angle. A further object is to cast the head portion of the razor in such fashion that the ends of its blade receiving edge are extended to the cutting edge of the blade whereby they serve as shields or guards and permit a very close shave. Still further objects are to produce a one-piece safety razor that may be packed in a small carton together with capsules containing soap, powder, lotion, cream or other shaving accessories to make a complete Sani-Shave Kit and sold to service men or the traveling public at such small cost that it may be discarded after one usage.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the razor;
Fig. 2 is a View in end elevation looking from the handle end;
Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation;
Fig. 4 is a View in end elevation looking from the head end;
Fig. 5 is a view in longitudinal vertical section taken on a broken line 5 5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a top plan view showing the razor and capsules containing shaving accessories packed in a small carton; and
Fig. 7 is a view in side elevation showing one of the accessory containing capsules.
Referring in detail to the drawing wherein like reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views, the numeral 5 designates the handle of the razor and the numeral 6 designates its head. It'will be noted that the handle is diverged or distended outward from the head to form a somewhat enlarged outer end. It will also be observed that the head is disposed at an acute angle with respect to the handle. These two factors ensure an acute shave angle and therefore a close shave for the reason that the handle must be held away from the face to allow finger room when shaving and this causes the razor blade to assume an acute angle with respect to the surface of the face.
The head 6 of the razor tapers from the handle to form a somewhat reduced outer face engaging or blade receiving end edge. The outer ends of this edge are slightly extended at 'l to form shields or guards for the blade, While the main edge is beveled oif, as will be understood. In casting or molding the razor a slot 3 is provided which extends through the projections 1 into the razor head. This slot may also be cut into the razor after it is molded and is of'such dimensions as to snugly but detachably receive a razor blade 9 whose cutting edge is even and ush with the outer ends of the projections 1. The blade may, of course, be molded in place if so desired.
Referiing to Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawing which further illustrates the utility of the device, the razor is packed in a compact carton I0 together with a plurality of capsules Il containing all the accessories necessary in shaving, such as soap, facial lotion, powder, cream and the like. This carton is attractive, may have a Cellophane or other transparent top, and the capsules are of different colors. Itis sanitary, complete for shaving, very small and light, and may be carried in` the Vest pocket. It may be sold at any store or by a vending machine at a price so low that it may be discarded after one shave. I call this shaving outt the Sani-Shave Kit, and the drawing shows the razor and outfit in its actual or full size.
I claim:
In a razor of the character described, a blade holding head portion formed with a longitudinal slot along one edge thereof, and open at its ends to the ends of the head, a handle integral with the head portion, and a flat metal blade removably mounted in the said slot with its sharpened edge exposed; said blade extending substantially the full length of the slot and said head having the portions thereof along both sides of the slot beveled to a thin edge and having rounded extensions at its ends through which the slot opens, and which protectively guard the sharpened corners of the blade.
DANDY J. MAYEUX.
